All week I’ve been thinking about meatloaf. Don’t know why really, just haven’t had it in a long time and I happen to really like it. I floated the idea this afternoon and got a little chuckle. ‘What’s so funny?’, I asked. ‘Just seemed so out of the blue’, she said.

Pretty basic recipe with the standard additions, and the good old ketchup, mustard and brown sugar glaze. Some mashed taters with lots of butter, and creamed peas. Creamed peas like grandma Vi made them — with canned LeSeuer peas, roux, liquid from the can and some cream. I was getting some pushback on the canned peas, but she’s a good sport and gave them a thumbs up.

Just a good, old school, Midwest dinner that really hit the spot. Mom/grandma would be proud.

Comfort food right there man. I kind of feel sorry for the peas though. Poor things got creamed.

Hog Wally always calls me when he butchers a bovine, deer, or goat. My in-laws love the parts that’s most peoples don’t want. And they are very good at making it into a meal.

Deer ribs are a delicacy to them, and most Americans won’t bother with them. I think my father in law has gained their respect with a knife and cleaver. Never says a word, just grabs the meat and begins his work, knowing exactly what to do. It’s actually fun to watch...Just ask Hog Wally.

When I was a kid all those parts like the tail went into a pressure cooker and came later as a wonderful soup.

         Sundried tomato bisque ,

Did use in the ingredients some BilletHead tomato sauce and all the herbs involved were from our garden. The grilled cheese alongside was made with a truffle cheese. I would call this an all American meal but the cheese is from Italy. Good old ice cold whole milk too ,

Mistake reading this post before making breakfast. My oatmeal won't be the same now. Thanks BH😞.

Haven’t made French Toast in a long time. Take and bake baguette and some real maple syrup.
