Custom painting lures

Just did this one today. When it dries will add some micro flake. Wild mushroom brown which is actually kinda golden, metallic black,wild roses which is sort of dark purpleish, and evening violet that's a brighter purple. Just a small amount of each just enough to make it visible.

The paint colors are pearlized White, pearlized gold mixed with Iridescent yellow, iridescent purple, ,some transparent bright  red on the underside, and opaque black

Yup...work in the paint lab has been awfully slow, but somehow we're considered essential.  So during my time as an essential worker I've been painting up more jerkbaits.  They are all predator blanks, which I just love.  They work great for me.

I have learned that you cant bake the blanks at 180 degrees, or they melt and deform!  140 works ok, just gotta bake em a bit longer.  I'm gonna take this messed up one and see how the action looks in the pond by my house.  Maybe it works better!

The shallow bite at l of o inspired me to shoot a couple “red wart” square bills. I’ll exercise one Sunday.  With fish sub 2’ this one should still dig

I  am just getting started  with lure painting. Plan on using 1.5 &  Wart blanks doing crawfish patterns to start with. What kind of template do you use for barring on crawfish patterns? Where would buy them also? Thanks.

Check eBay. Couple of sellers offer stencils that are vac formed to fit the 1.5s and warts. Pre cut, or blank. Not super simple to cut the blank ones.

You can also use cut pieces of frisket, flexible plastic, manila envelopes, cardboard. Just shoot the paint in front of, or behind the cut, depending on the effect you want. Can also cut patterns in the cut edge...ragged craw shell and such.

This one was painted with a piece of flexible plastic.

Just shot this Strike  King  2.5 today.

Will add some micro metallic black flakes on the back when I top coat it after it dries.
