Is fishing aging out?

WE ARE THE BEST PARENTS EVER!

My kids don't know what technology is, for Pete's sake! They play outside, kill the food they want to eat (humanely of course), make their own clothes from animals they've trapped, support each other in their schoolwork, that is,when they attend government sanctioned schools (who knows what they are TEACHING now a days), They are ABSOLUTELY unsullied by today's LAX parenting methods from other families that seem to plague our youth of today. I am just amazed when they give excess meat from their hunting excursions to the local food pantry. While they are smelly, I am justly proud of their political stance of not bathing, supporting the poor everywhere, and not supporting Proctor and Gamble's hold on modern bathing practices. They hate TV, and don't understand why anyone would watch it when there is a WORLD of wonder outside our door. Phones? Hah! And don't get started on girls and boys who actually PLAY SPORTS. What a waste of time! My kids are just aghast at the level of UNINVOLVEMENT in nature of the modern family. The EMBARRASSMENT of being driven in a car that CONSUMES RESOURCES is an absolute soul killer to them, my precious brood. The SORROW they feel for children of all ages who don't FISH or HUNT is palpable, and spurs them on to greater efforts for non technological self sufficiency. They absolutely SCORN kids who wear bike helmets! And don't get them started on parents who actually want to BE PART OF THEIR CHILDREN'S LIVES! If people would only know how IMPORTANT FISHING AND HUNTING is to everyday life, the world would be a better place.

i'm 28, i grew up playing video games and really not caring about fishing. as i got older i started to appreciate the simpler things in life. When i started fishing again i found within it new amazement and appreciation for something that i always considered boring when i was a kid. I wouldn't say aging out is right, but for me personally i had to grow into it to love and appreciate it.

Plus with current technology and viewing the world with adults eyes, i can appreciate things like this:

Got to start them out early. I make it a point to take kids..any kids fishing every Spring when it's more catching than fishing.

That's kind of how my younger brother is. He is 25 and never was big in to it, but has started taking more of an interest in hunting and fishing the past few years. He is and will probably never be anywhere near as ate up about it as I am, but he does enjoy going along with me now and then.

Stage 1; The first excitement and hooking of an angler

My (Insert who took you) took me fishing and my bobber went down I was so Excited I wanted to do it again!

Stage 2; Still the excited angler but now the curious angler also

I love watching my bobber go down but I want to try other things which shall I try?

Stage 3; Curious angler but is now confused and getting frustrated

I am trying what the guys at the bait store or fishing report or my favorite pro said is catching them but I’m not catching

Stage 4; Frustrated looking for something to blame.

There has to be a reason I AM NOT CATCHING FISH and Joe said it’s this and Jim said it’s that. (this is where the sport looses many anglers)

Stage 5; Back to basics and building confidence

The angler went back to what he use to be most confident with instead of trying everything on the market and listening to everyone else and started catching fish again. ( Also the stage that tackle boxes start to get light)

Stage 6; Enjoyment and Mentoring

The angler has gone through the Joy of starting to the frustration of being caught up in everything to remembering the greatest key to catching is Confidence. Now the angler has aged and tries to pass on his/her knowledge and love for the sport.

( The stage many anglers that haven't reached it despise as those people willing to share are giving away spots or secrets those who haven't reached this stage believe it is top secret)

Moral to the story. No matter what stage you are at the Fish is always Smarter than you. Finally what grandpa taught you will always produce a fish he did after-all have decades on you and already made all your mistakes. Aint it hell when you get old enough to realize the old folks really did know what they were talking about.

I had the priviledge of taking 2 high school student to a tournament at Lake of the Ozarks on March 28. It was cold rainy snowing and we had a blast. The tourney had 82 boats registered, so If the fishing was aging when have you seen an adult tournament with that kind of entries.

As a kid I often rode my bike or could walk to good fishing. Where are kids gonna go to do that anymore? And then there is the problem, if there is a place to go, some sicko preying on the kids. I always carried a pocketknife everywhere, and when fishing alone, carried a .22 pistol from age 12....That just ain't politically correct anymore...so in essence, we adults, kinda legislate the kids out of the outdoors...

I used to ride my bike down the road to go quail hunting with my Remington 870 across the handle bars. Bet you'd make the news doing that today.

Oh well, the quail have gone the way of the .22 cartridges anyway.

It would be nice to see our communities spend some money on small public fishing lakes (ponds). Probably more unrealistic that I realize though.

It's really not any worse now than before. We just get more media attention,and 24 hour news. Really if there are sickos every where preying on kids, name 5 in the last 5 years. Where are they located? Who abducted them? Family members? You have better chances to win the state lottery twice. Let the kids outside! Teach them to be independent. When is it safe for them? When they are 21, and don't know how to navigate through the city? Turn off your tv's, and experience real life. Go out and have fun. Everyone who goes outside in a bad neighborhood doesn't get shot. BINGO ! Its the same with the big Meth-head propaganda. Everyone is worried about being victimized by drug-doers.

If the real truth were told it is meth-heads and various other drug doers that are doing all the REAL WORK in this country. Building houses, building bridges, paving the roads, winning bass tournaments, ect.

They ain't all out there looking to steal your crap to "get a fix".

There is seldom anything "lazy" about a dude with a speed habit, and they are generally far too paranoid to do anything illegal aside from acquiring their dope.
