Unimog Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 As far as hurting the fish goes, the same argument can be applied to all soft plastics in the hands of a novice angler, an inattentive angler or someone who just plain couldn't feel the bite. I have seen some of the private fishing lakes not allow Carolina rigs at all to avoid gut hooking and killing fish. Regardless of the method, it's up to the angler to exercise care in its use....much like everything else. Ham and Sac River Jim 2

Walcrabass Posted May 8, 2015 Author Posted May 8, 2015 Everyone, I was NOT BASHING ANYONE...... I never do. I was only cautioning about a lure that I feel catches a large percentage more small bass than other lures. We all know that a fish can and will swallow even big baits at a given instance. I have fished it myself and have been in the boat with others fishing it. They were consistently catching smaller bass and so did I. When I fished with something else ( bigger ) they continued to catch smaller and I did not. As far as the treble hook thing I am glad it was brought up. I also do not fish with a lot of Crankbaits/Jerkbaits. For the same reason. A nice slender jerk Bait really goes down the gullet easily for a fish a guy might want to release. Don't get me wrong.... I DO fish with them. But if the fish are swallowing them I try another bait....like Spinner Bait, Jig, Worm, etc. to get away from the problem. I really hate killing them unless I have decided to take them home BEFORE I catch them. Yes, I do eat Bass. In fact I ate one a few weeks ago....his first name started with K and ended with entucky. Please don't list me as a complainer..... I am only trying to be a Trainer. If I was going to complain I could find much better subjects. Wally
MOPanfisher Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 I was distressed when I finally looked it up to what the heck a Ned rig was. Turns out we had been using VERY similar things and didn't have any na me for it. I have caught small bass on some pretty big lures.
Ham Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 The crazy little thing catches everything. All species and all sizes. It catches more small fish than big fish BECAUSE there are more small fish than there are big fish. I've caught some pretty decent fish on it already and I KNOW that I will catch more nice fish on it in the future, but PLEASE DON'T FISH THE NED RIG EVER!
