bobby b. Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 When I got my first boat some 30 plus years ago, my wife was trying to back the trailer in at a public ramp on Pomme on a very hot Sunday afternoon. There was about 10 boats waiting in the water to be pulled out together with 10 cars and trailers waiting in line. She was having trouble and was all over the two lane ramp. After a minute or so, one of the guys waiting in line got out of his car and came up to her and asked her to get out of the car. He got in to the car and backed the trailer in. I drove the boat on trailer and he pulled it up. We laughed a bit, made some smart remarks about women drivers (I don't do that anymore), and I thanked him. Things have really changed. People are so up tight. MOPanfisher 1
GNSfishing Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Donna is better at backing the trailer and handling the boat than a lot of men. Our routine is I back her in when we launch and then she goes and gets the trailer in the afternoon. You'd have to ask her why we do it that way. And by the time I climb down out of the boat when we'rle loading up, she has half or more of the latching down done. Yeah, I think I'll keep her. I'd say you had better keep her or there will be a lot of us standing in line waiting to catch her.. :-) .. Champ188 1
ness Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 A few years back I was fishing a small county lake near here and a due pulled up in a big diesel truck pulling a massive pontoon boat. I made it a point to stick around because I thought there was no way he'd pull it off, especially because it's a short, narrow ramp and you've got to come in at a slight angle. He cranked that thing in the slot, slid it down the ramp -- with maybe a couple feet of clearance on each side -- first try. Man, that was a thing of beauty. I wanted to applaud. Champ188 1 John
Blll Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 1st 10 years I had my boat it was kept at a cabin in the U.P. of Michigan. For 3 weeks a year I would launch it maybe 3x a day in small lakes with gravel ramps. Never a soul around except the critters. 10 years right? I thought I was very adept at all things ramp wise. Well the first public ramp with people coming in & out, waiting in line, kids now in the car blocking my rear view, hands sweating, boat wakes pushing boat around. I was THAT GUY! Any way I have developed great patience for peoples ramp woes unless an obvious "don't give a s***t" attitude. Always offer help, not always taken. Life is short...Peace. ness and Champ188 2
David Unnerstall Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 God Bless You and Yours. Hey, guys, let's talk about some fishing? What's a ned rig? I have yet to catch a fish on the darned thing. I hopped it around in Spanish Lake, once, and Crane Lake during Memorial Day weekend in my canoe. I will try it on Mark Twain this fall with my buddy Bob if I can find the time to get the boat out of storage.
David Unnerstall Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Yeah!!! You punk kids get off my lawn!! Old folks griping about "kids these days" the ancient cycle. Dont you think our parents/grandparents thought the same thing about all of us, no matter what your age is? All kids are little ******* and they always have been. The world will keep spinning, and the kids now will be old and complaining about how the kids now dont have any respect for adults these days. My opinion is that future generations will be kinder, more open, and more tolerant to others differences than any other generation in the history of human kind. I am 56. I do remember the promise I made to myself when I was young that I was not going to sound like a crabby old man and complain about kids, today.
Champ188 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I hopped it around in Spanish Lake, once, and Crane Lake during Memorial Day weekend in my canoe. Don't hop it. Don't even drag it but just a few inches every 10 seconds. They will come get it. dtrs5kprs 1
fishinwrench Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I can now see why Ned heads are such a lucrative business.....once you rig one the hook rusts out in 24 hours. I've caught a few dozen bass, about 40 drum, and a channel cat on them, but I have gone through at least 25 jig heads. Do they make that crap without salt ?
