Gavin Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 i don't care if you eat a couple small bass one shot. Your welcome to keep on keeping on, hating on what you want to hate. Not my problem. Keep and eat the abundant small bass. Keep and eat the big ones andits a different story. Can't be directed w/o a regulation change. Seth 1
drew03cmc Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Go on and keep everything you catch, but I never want to see you complain about of quality of fishing in the river. Follow all laws, rules and regulations and I say live and let live. Andy
Haris122 Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 "Living of the Land" full time or close to it is sadly a dead end road nowadays. Judging from history, it has been for several centuries, as unrestricted living off the land of even many billion fewer people than we have now, had gotten things to the point of barely having deer here in Missouri (not that that's nearly the sole case of "living of the land" gone wrong). It might have been doable back when there were many fewer people in the world, but nowadays, very few people would live off the land sustainably. Whether we like it or not, our ability to grow food more efficiently, whether plants or animals, is what allows wild animals and plants to make a comeback. So, even though I'm not as passionate solely for Smallmouth Bass, tighter enforced regulations are what has gotten the job done most of the time. Question really is whether you find the regulation change necessary. As infrequently as I catch them I'm all for tighter regulations, cause whether because of my poor fishing skills, or because the smallmouth are overfished where I go for them, I don't see them for squat. And rightly or wrongly so, I'm thinking tighter regulations might let me hook into them more, to see what all this love for smallies is all about.
SpoonDog Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 I understand what the 4 point rule is, I just don't see any Ozark locals wasting away because of it. Nor do I see many locals wasting away because they can't eat every smallie they catch. Nor do I see much sense in booing regulations (deer, smallmouth, or otherwise) because someday, somehow, they may change into something completely different. If I lived in some weird alternate universe populated only by myself, male deer, and smallmouth, maybe my attitudes would be different and I'd be faced with some tough choices. Luckily though, no one lives in that weird alternate universe. Even the indians realized the Ozarks were not the sort of place for year-round subsistence. Even the early settlers built hunting camps, roaming across the landscape looking for game and covering a ton of ground in the process. The idea homesteaders were living off the fat of the land without consequences for the resource is a fantasy- we've seen what happened to fish and game numbers. I have no interest in entertaining that fantasy. I don't think management of our resources should be based on that fantasy. I don't think the majority of anglers should have to settle for poor fishing because a few folks buy into that fantasy. It's sorta like building a house in a floodplain: if you want to try scratching a living off the land in a place where it makes no ecological sense- I can't stop you, but I'm not going to enable you, either. If you want to hitch your wagon to exploiting someone else's resources for your personal nutrition, be my guest- just don't pitch a fit when they decide they have other ideas. Seth 1

tho1mas Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 . Traced my family all the way back to southern France. Perhaps this explains some of this.
Old plug Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Geezzzzzzz I wonder if there are homo fishes. maybe that is the reason for some of the population decline. Oneshot---- I do not and you do not understand the condition. All I know is I knew a kid from birth and as soon as he was old enough to play he leaned towards girls things. By the time he was 6 he was doing dress up in his mothers close. In spite of all his parents could do he never changed. So I find it hard to condemn him for something he was born with. Do not be quoting God either about it. I believe there is something somewnere. Bit I would not put my faith in what some MAN wrote in there are what your local preacher tells you what he thinks it means and what you should do about it. Take your rebel flag flag and wipe with it. It is not the flag of my country. it is a source of division. we do not need that stuff today. I think ink your poor because you want to be poor.
Deadstream Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Anyway's,here in Northern Michigan an 8lb 24.25 inch smallmouth was caught In Houghton Lake. It got the knife Still waiting for the Salmon to start.
oneshot Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Was just thinking with so many Smallmouth maybe the best thing to keep all happy they should put a slot limit on them? Use to raise much of my meat but found it much cheaper to hunt and fish. Spend very little and don't do with out. Old Plug just because you prefer Men over Women I don't hate you I just feel you are wrong and I will pray you change because I want the best for you. oneshot
