Gonna get to look at the St. Croix rods tomorrow and noticed they have 1, 2 and even 3 piece rod options.  I am going for a 6'6" rod and honestly have had very very few 2 piece rods in my lfe, and I missing anything.  I almost never break a rod (that will jinx me for sure), so not sure that a 2 piece would benefit me any.  The rod is theoretically destined for a Ned type rod, but more likely will become a walleye, goggle-eye, smallie, or even back up crappie rod.  Any thoughts on 1 piece vs. 2 piece.

I do break rods often....so all of mine are two piece...actually i have 1 7ft 1pc rod left (fingers crossed).  I would imagine that a 1pc rod is probably more sensitive or something, and i guess people have had issues with them separating.  I havent noticed a lack of sensitivity, and ive never had them come apart.  Other than that I dont know of any other disadvantages.  That said...if you dont break em, and dont need them compact/portable then go with a 1 piece.

Also....casting rods for reasons i dont understand are very hard to find in 2pc, whereas almost every spinning rod ive come across has a 2pc counterpart.

I have not been able to tell a difference between 1 and 2 piece rods when fishing them. I like em both.

I can't stand 2 piece spinning or casting rods, of course 4 piece fly rods are fine, not sure why but I'm getting too old to change.

I have a 2pc. 6'6" for Smallies and white bass.  I like the option of breaking it down for canoe travel, or just for carrying behind the seat of my truck.  If it is a quality rod it will fish as good as a 1pc.

I think we are mainly talking preference here.  For me I prefer a one piece rod.

If your going to troll with it I would recommend ugly sticks. I used them. From the first yr they were made to year before last when they became to to heavy for me to use and never ever in that time broke one. I have never  owned a expensive rod. I use Berkley Cherrywood  rods now. Fine for casting but I would not recommend them for trolling. I think sometime in the area of rods and reels you do not always get what you pay for. That is especially true of reels. I have a friend who repairs them I see a awful lot of expensive failures.

No trolling and I don't like ugly sticks.  I say no trolling, but heck if thats what needs to be done with it I certainly won't not do it.  I have trolled with my other St. Croixs at times.   Its gonna be a St. Croix I am pretty sure, I already have 3 St. Croix I believe.  I currently have 3 other models of 6'6" rods (all one piece) a 7'2" Outlaw (2 piece) and an 8' Crappie maxx (2 piece) don't remember the last time I had any of the 2 piece ones apart so I am leaning one piece but will look, feel, twitch, etc. when I get there and maybe decide on one, or maybe hang fire for a while yet, still won't get to use it for a while so its not a rush buy.
