fishinwrench Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 On the same....Officers should not forget; that love them or hate them boaters/drivers/regular people are human too, and legitimately just out enjoying their freedom and the things they work for. If we feel we need a cop....we'll call you. Until then, just go have a doughnut, and stop with the gestapo tactics on folks that aren't bothering anyone. Fishin Hodge, Greasy B and Deadstream 3

You never seen me post anything negative about the water patrol any other law enforcement individuals. i do not ever make assumtions about total groups. i would have to be a card carrying Republican or Democrat for that sort of foolishness. But I live here in the community and I know what people say. When it starts spanning 3 counties then I say there is something wrong with this individuals behavior and he should not be a officier of the law. That does not mean I cannot find fault with the judgement of some departments and their leadership in rural counties and small towns. There are real problem in some of them. As far as the drowning I know at one time the first afternoon there were no less than 8 patrol boats in the water right in the area. Most of them tied together chatting. That constitutes about 90% of the officiers on that lake at the time. I do not think it took that many to investigate this situation. Further the whole thing was Govenor Nixons fault to begin with. He created the conditions for the rich and privlaged. BiteMeBaits 1
Members Jan_Z Posted January 11, 2016 Members Posted January 11, 2016 California was thinking of combining the Highway patrol (CHP) and the fish and game department a few years back. We suggested a new name... Dept of Fish and chips MOPanfisher and BiteMeBaits 2

I fully understand that folks are human and make mistakes. A lot of the same stupid mistakes I made/still make and I don't hold it against anybody. I stop hundreds of cars per year and write hundreds of tickets. But wait, I can count on one hand the number of major traffic offenses I've written to normal everyday citizens. Majority of my tickets come from dwi's or other criminal offenses. We stop a lot of cars as a deterrence and apprehension tool. I've already taken several drunk drivers off the streets this year. But you don't need cops, you would rather call when a drunk kills one of your kids. Your last comment clearly demonstrates your ignorance and character. 96 CHAMP 1
fishinwrench Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 You can think of it as ignorance if you want, that's fine. I was raised during a time when cops didn't operate the way they do now. They were friendly, helpful, had a sense of humor, and they actually CARED about people. And I just can't recall the vote or request that changed all that. Enforcement of the law has changed from being a service to being a very VERY lucrative business, and in many cases a very corrupt corporation. As far as I know not a single tax payer ever requested that. Our prisons are full of non-violent offenders and bondsmen and lawyers are making way too much money way too easily. If I were to call and report a burglary or report something stolen there would be no investigation or chance of recovery, I'm just given a report to forward to an insurance co.. But if because of a burglary/theft I get behind on child support you'll be out there to pull me over for a "license plate light" and then throw me in jail. So you see, for every life you claim to be saving..... You are ruining 25-50.
Members BiteMeBaits Posted January 11, 2016 Members Posted January 11, 2016 I invite you to come and ride and see what exactly it is that I do. I put everything I have into a case and sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. To say there wouldn't be an investigation is an all out lie. If you go to jail for child support then that's on the judge that issues the warrant or your license being suspended, not us. I love the citizens of our town and most love us. When I say citizen I mean good, everyday people who don't leech off of society. Oh and I guess I forgot to sign up with the local attorney and bondsman to get my cut. The only extra dime we get for an arrest or ticket is overtime or court. Which let's face it, court always falls on my day off so I typically have to skip a day of fishing to go. But my offer stands, come ride (or anyone else here). At the end of the day we will all still be friends with a common interest in fishing. Maybe that's why we are all so grumpy. Because it's too dang cold to go and the rock is flooded. tho1mas, fishinwrench, Hughesy and 3 others 6
fishinwrench Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 You're alright. It is frustrating though, having grown up under one régime and being forced to live under another. It really doesn't effect me personally anymore but what I see around me still makes me sad. Life can be tough for awhile sometimes, for a variety of basically innocent reasons, and it doesn't help when there are black & white vultures out there circling, running your pedigree every chance they get and just waiting for the opportunity to start ripping your guts out. Instead of saying "Hey man, I see you're going through a rough spell, what can I do to help?". BiteMeBaits 1
MOPanfisher Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 i guess I have just never been in that position FW. My dealings with LE have been 90% or so positive, even being let off for things I couldn't complain if they wrote me a ticket, light out, minor speeding etc. When it comes to any agency attempting to finance themselves with fine money that is a bad thing it encorages punishment instead of enforcement. I do have a somewhat narrow view on BWI or DWI, if they are over the limit, prosecute them period. That may be my wife/kids on the water or road with them, they can then tell their story to the prosecutor and or judge. I know several who have been ticketed, not lost their job or have any stigma attached that I am aware of so I don't see it as ruining anyones life. MSHP has always seemed to have a black and white view. They catch you they ticket you, honestly as long as they are consistent with everyone I am fine with that, although at times they seem to be a little ticket happy, for instance a local guy wrecked his truck, dropped a wheel off the road in the soft mud of the shoudler and that was all she wrote. Ended up getting a ticket for failure to drive on right half of the road or something, come on the wreck was enough, so I see your point. Counties deputies and some municipal LE are a little more forgiving at times.
Members BiteMeBaits Posted January 11, 2016 Members Posted January 11, 2016 I get it. It's always on my heart "what would happen of I got a $100 ticket". It would put a dent in the budget for sure. That's why I very seldom write tickets other than insurance and seatbelts unless there is something more like a dwi. Then those guys get every single one I can write. That is where I become a butthole. Typically the only time I harass a law abiding citizen is when they are pulling out moonshine beach or state park marina and I'm pimping for fishing info. I'll always stop and chat with those guys and let them know that I am an avid fisherman and try to keep an eye out for their stuff. OldMillRoad, Champ188, Smalliebigs and 3 others 6
