I've lived in places where all the lakes are weed beds with lily pads, it can be fun to fish in that stuff at times, but I don't miss it. I don't think it helps the fishing either, maybe on those TVA lakes it does, but I don't know if these lakes around here would be any better with weeds. Quachita is an example of an Ozarks Lake that benfited from grass. They killed the grass & the fising isn't as good. 18-20lb bags were common back then, not so much now. Maybe I'm just wishing for greener pastures. Grass gives the fish a place to hide in the shade, provides oxygen & baitfish. Sure its tougher to fish as an angler. It pretty much eliminates the treble hooked baits for me. Although there are ways to cacth them with a crankbait or topwater that fished correctly. Maybe its time, that I go south to Dardanelle. The big ones start biting in February down there.

If the frog bite dies off I will get a 1 oz weight and drop it through the mats. It's a fun way to fish. Whats your punching setup for elmdale? I know a couple other small lakes with similar grass around Fayetteville.

Good 7'-7'6" stick, some 50# braid or 20# FC, and whatever you want to punch. I really like a big, pointy headed jig. When I do it from the frog boat, I use a shorter rod, an old 6'8" heavy All Star. 14 minutes ago, Champ188 said: The grass is coming back strong on Ouachita. mojorig Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Even though I grew up here fishing around rocks, I spent 4 years in SE Arkansas fishing vegetation. I loved every minute of it. I personally would love to see submerged vegetation in Bull Shoals Lake and Lake Norfork. It would help make recruitment of black bass and forage like sunfish and shad more consistent than the current "Boom or Bust" scenario occurring in these lakes. Unfortunately, submerged vegetation is not going to be established in these lake any time soon. Champ. it looks like Lake Ouachita is going to be give up some big sacks this spring. Hope you all have a good trip. dtrs5kprs, mixermarkb, Ham and 1 other 4 Jeremy Risley District Fisheries Supervisor AGFC Mountain Home Office - 1-877-425-7577 Email: Jeremy.Risley@agfc.ar.gov
Sprint21fter Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 There are big bass in Taneycomo and the upper white below beaver that stay there to eat on the rainbows. 2-3lb bass will easily eat a stocked rainbow.
