Members BiteMeBaits Posted March 1, 2016 Members Posted March 1, 2016 Put in at aunts around 7:15. Fished everything from steep rock banks to pea gravel with warts, jerk baits and tubes/Ned. About 11:00 With all the shad die off I decided to throw on a white/purple 1/2oz war eagle. Slow rolling sitting in about 16fow and casting as far ahead as I could while still hitting the bank. Ended up picking up a nice K and two big fat smallies. All were in about 4ft. Not quite the day I was expecting but just goes to show what confidence in a bait will do. Water temps were 45.5-48 by about 12:45 when we left. Muddy Water, magicwormman and dtrs5kprs 3
Bill Babler Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Probably one of the best Aunts Creek reports we have gotten this year Thanks BiteMeBaits 1 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
willyfish Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 I was thinking a big spinnerbait might be the ticket if the water is as dirty as everyone is saying.
GREENTRITON Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Give me a zero at Aunts creek yesterday only had two hours..
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 We were there a little over a week ago doing some testing on my boat. Ended up fishing for a couple hours when it got windy and we caught 4 keepers. 2 smallies a spot and a largemouth. All of them were under 16" and caught on bright warts real shallow
m&m Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 BMB, what type blade(s) if you don't mind me asking? I said on another post that I saw some shad in the back of a pocket and thought a spinnerbaits might work. Mike
Ketchup Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Little tip from Hackney today about spinnerbaits with dirty water..... After the official practice period, Elite Series pro Greg Hackney discusses the chances of a spinnerbait winning the 2016 Bassmaster Classic. Greg Hackney is returning to his bass fishing roots in an effort to connect with the numerous 3 to 5-pound bass that find themselves swimming in exceptionally dirty Bassmaster Classic waters this week at Oklahoma’s Grand Lake o’ the Cherokees. “A spinnerbait is the bait I learned to fish with, but sadly, I could count on one hand the number of bass I’ve weighed-in on it the past ten years,” said the shallow water expert from Louisiana. “But this week, a heavy spinnerbait with that giant No. 7 hubcap-sized Colorado blade just seems to make sense on Grand. “This one is a really heavy 1-ounce Strike King Hack Attack, so I can get it deep enough to where those pre-spawners are suspended and that giant gold blade produces about as much vibration as anything you could tie-on in this muddy water. “I started with a No. 6 willowleaf blade in practice, but I’ll be honest with you; it just wasn’t providing enough ‘thump’ to give me confidence the fish could feel it in that dirty water. So I changed over to that big Colorado blade instead and I’ll promise you they can sense that rolling past ‘em.” As far as the gear required to tow such a heavy, high-vibration beast, Hackney uses a 7-foot, 4-inch Quantum Tour KVD heavy-action rod and a large EXO 200 reel spooled with 20-pound Gamma fluorocarbon line. “It just seems like we seldomnly ever have an Elite Series event anymore that sets up perfectly for spinnerbaits, but with the water being dirty and 46degrees, this could be it,” Hackney warned. “And if that water warms up to the low 50s, look out!” TinBoats BassClub. Jerry Rapp Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 he must be catching them on a finesse jig. dtrs5kprs, magicwormman and abkeenan 3
m&m Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Ketchup, thank you for the information. I was thinking about the larger Colorado blade. But TR may be a little clearer in some parts. Mike Ketchup 1
