chi0082 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 So the dogwoods are blooming (trees with white flowers right?) but I haven't had much luck with whites in any of my usual white bass "spots". And most guys I know who's fishing for them aren't doing very good either. Is it too early still? What truly makes the white bass run up the rivers/creeks? Is it water temp, amount of daylight, water flow? Are they just as confused as we are? lol. marcus 1
Unimog Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I've also heard when the dogwoods are in bloom, the bass are on the beds. Not true this year either with the crazy warm winter giving things an early start.
Sprint21fter Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Don't believe the dogwoods are blooming, alot of the white trees are the "pear trees" Noah Mello, coachtil and tho1mas 3
Members Noah Mello Posted March 16, 2016 Members Posted March 16, 2016 Usually when dog woods bloom crappie are on the banks I don't know so much about whit bass. I know there being caught shallow in lakes and are running rivers and creeks Champ188 1
DADAKOTA Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I know down at LOZ the redbuds bloom before the dogwoods. The crab apples, pears, and plum trees are usually the first to bloom followed by the redbuds and last the dogwoods. Not saying things won't be a little earlier, but I believe too early for dogwoods. Always heard the crappie are spawning when the dogwoods are blooming. magicwormman, tho1mas and Champ188 3
Members Noah Mello Posted March 16, 2016 Members Posted March 16, 2016 They are Bradford pears commonly mistaken for dog woods. mixermarkb, Muddy Water, tho1mas and 1 other 4
fishinwrench Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Regardless of early warm spells the Whites never show up in the creeks on LO until April, usually during a high water event. And only if the lake level is at or above 657.5 Table rock area Whites typically proceed ours by about 2 weeks.
Members jimalert3 Posted March 16, 2016 Members Posted March 16, 2016 According to MDC the first to bloom are downy service berry and later dogwood . Jim alert magicwormman and trythisonemv 2
chi0082 Posted March 16, 2016 Author Posted March 16, 2016 Thanks for the clarification. I guess the white bass are all trained in horticulture. As I sure as heck can't tell the difference.
