I was born and raised in Kansas graduated from Tonganoxie and I can tell that Perry was a well kept secret at one time. The slot limit they had really helped the size in that lake. Great fishery. dtrs5kprs 1
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 I shot a big one a couple years back with a spear. Is it some form of carp or a drum. I was thinking it is a buffalo carp.
Blll Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 aarch-dale, coming from the north, I'm very well acquainted with drum (which we call Sheephead) and Lake Erie is packed with them. They hit lures and bait, fight really well and if served right are pretty good eating. I don't know why they are so looked down upon everywhere other than they are not your target and kinda homley looking. The nice catch you have pictured is not a drum but a Buffalo. Nice shot!
MOPanfisher Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Take me with you on TR, if there is a drum within a mile it will find my jig. Funny how they can hit like a crappie or bass and can put up a decent fight or none at all. I still my one and only Master Angler Award haging on my wall, the fish, Freshwater Drum from Pomme de Terre.
dan hufferd Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 If you ever catch one on a crank bait you will think you have the biggest fish in the lake. I caught a 10# drum last year. I was hoping for some wall hanger walleye but when it came up,,,just a dumb drum. I have made up my might to make cut bait out of the next one, they must be able to read your mind because I haven't caught one since 96 CHAMP 1
J.M. Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 I caught a 13lb. drum on TR 30 yrs. ago on a twin spin. I was fishing with a friend near Joe Bald he caught a 18lb. drum on a jig and pig.

There are no drum in TR. That is a hoax and should probably be checked on Snopes. Champ188 can attest I'll catch any drum within 100 nautical miles. Gives me crap about it frequently. Jerkbaits at Grand. Two on a squarebill at Bull on back-to-back casts. Big 'un on a jig at Greers Ferry. The list goes on. So, in my expert opinion there are no drum in TR 'cos I am the Drum Queen mo-sheen and have never so much as snagged a scale on one at the Rock. 176champion, 96 CHAMP, dtrs5kprs and 2 others 5 Donna Gilzow Bella Vista, Arkansas The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope. --John Buchan, 1915
96 CHAMP Posted April 9, 2016 Author Posted April 9, 2016 I caught one last fall at LOZ that would have probably went 6-7 lbs on a wiggle wart, thought I had a big bass for a bit, fun to catch, my 2 older brothers when they used to go to Tanny every Jan caught them often, and kept them, said they were pretty good, I myself have never ate one
Champ188 Posted April 9, 2016 Posted April 9, 2016 96CHAMP, they will knock the urine out of a Megabass on LOZ. Ham, bluebasser86, dan hufferd and 1 other 4
