I can honestly say that I get TONS more bites when a worm/jig/lizard/grub is initially sinking than I do when I'm "retrieving" it.     The most important time to concentrate is the first 5 seconds after your bait enters the water. Guys/Gals that don't even engage their reel until their bait is on the bottom are only catching 1/100th of the fish possible.

You can say that again wrench. There is a whole lot to understanding just what that SINKING involves as well.

I totally get what you're saying, but I guess that depends on water depth. For very shallow water, engaging the reel when the lure hits the water is fine... but If you're in deep water and engage your reel when it first hits the water, it will pendulum back and end up no where near the target you were trying to hit. I'm more of a line watcher myself. I'm not saying wait until it hits bottom, but there is a best time to engage.

Exactly. Little different when the docks you are flipping have 60' on the fronts.

NOw days I just do not say anything about it. The whole thing of fish thru the water column. Is another developed skill. And there are days you have them dialed in as being on bottom, no need to spend time trying to make them bite it falling. It really comes down to getting a feel for fishing, and for individual fisheries.

Thats not all you mentioned.  You went on to rant about things you clearly know little or nothing about.  If you dont say such outrageous stuff i will certainly back off...but you were begging for it.

I agree with that Dave knowing the differance and understanding both of those things are different systems requiring different knowledge and techgue are the differance between a fisherman and want to be's

I dont understand why this is viewed as "picking fights"....im sure wrench could take me...im a weakling with a bad back.   I simply correct people when they say things that are absolutely false.  If a person makes things up off of the top of their head...then presents it as if it is fact, then i will certainly correct them if i know it is indeed false.  Im sure wrench can fix a boat just fine...but he is "way out of his class" talking about science lol...stick to outboards or shutup, unless you wanna be corrected.  "junior flipper" "my boy" (im not 15...)  This is just another example of the childish name calling that goes on from the white river gang...thank you for at least not referring to my penis though like mixermarkb and dtrs....thats weird guys.

"White River Gang"

I like the sound of that. Do we have colors? Gang signs? Maybe a jersey? Should I be leaving our tag around? Do we control any territory? Do we have "beef" with the Osage River Gang and the Meremac River Gang?

I didn't know I was a member of a gang, but I can go all in with this idea.
