Fish24/7 Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 my attitude towards sharing water is obviously WAY diff. than merc and Mitch and others.. I can see your reasoning. Decided long ago to just fish and not worry/care about what the other guy is doing. I catch more fish that way. dtrs5kprs, Hammer time, Daryk Campbell Sr and 3 others 6
crazy4fishin Posted May 1, 2016 Posted May 1, 2016 A lot of good responses here - I think that this has happened to all of us at some time....I have passed and been passed while fishing - if I am catching up to someone I will always ask before passing...up here there are numerous 3-400 acre lakes and being in a metro area there are times that we can be on top of each other.....especially when the Corp. decides it all you can catch crappie week. I did laugh at Champs comment about throwing something at the tourney guy over and over.....I think that would be a hollow sound for sure C4F dtrs5kprs, Hammer time and ramman123 3 Crazy4fishinA Cornhusker
ramman123 Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Just because you PAY a $40 launch tag doesnt mean you own any of the lake but i do understand it can get frustrating when another boat gets close but realistically there isnt anything you can do to the other person. As well as with today tech its really easy to find joe blows trees thats he sunk over the winter still doesnt mean that is his rightful spot to fish, besides most that are fishing around you are probably going to fish quicker than you then whats to worry about. Just had to line up and fish. That's a big part of why slowing down and picking things apart is so comfortable to me. Lot of folks would just fall over if they saw 60 boats in a jackpot tmt on a 500 acre farm country lake. No points to speak of. Just riprap, channel edges, and flat banks.
Quillback Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Swepco is really bad on Saturdays in the winter. I am fortunate to be able to go over there during the week, but even then it can feel a bit crowded. But, that lake kicks out fish, and average size is really good. Donna G, mixermarkb and dtrs5kprs 3

WT 66-67, color still nasty, visibility about one foot. Caught a few shorts but only one keeper SM (see pic). Fish found in about 10 fow. Was fishing a 50 yard deep pocket and had another boat pull into the pocket so I motored around the point to an adjacent pocket but a few minutes later here he comes again. So, what is the proper distance to stay from another fisherman and what is the proper response for a guy that gets too close. Here are my ideas: 1) Wait until the boats nearly touch each other then jump into his boat and punch his lights out. (Probably a bad idea as (a) he may punch my lights out or (b) I might get arrested.) 2) Scream and curse at him . (May not be good for reason 1(a) above.) 3) Leave the area but create big time wake by doing donuts around his boat as I leave. (May not be good as the space was too small and I might damage my lower unit on rocks or stumps). 4) Ask him if his mother ever taught him any manners. (Probably no good as his mother probably abandoned him on the Church steps.) 5) Take photo of his boat and post on OAF. 6) Politely discuss proper etiquette with him. (Again may end up with 1 (a) above.) 7) Leave the area for a different part of the lake.(Which is what I did) 8) Other ideas - please specify. Bobby Bobby Open carry an AR-15.
MOPanfisher Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Inform him that you ate glad he is close by, as you have been able to afford your PTSD medication after returning from Iraq. You think there have been someone stalking you along the bank and would be glad to have some witnesses in case it come to gunfire. Also casually mention that if you suffer a complete psychotic meltdown to please tie your hands and feet before you regain consciousness and to call the number on the emergency card in your wallet ane the Army will send someone immediately. Then turn and scream at a bush that you are just talking to the man not to get twitchy. If they are still around start to remove clothing after each cast, and mumble loudly the fresh air and sunshine is supposed to good for venereal disease prevention. RSBreth Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 My good friend Sgt Vest does something like that - but usually it's when people start crowding us while wading Taney. He starts YELLING not singing the Roland Martin T.V. Show theme song - "HE'S THE GREAT AMERICAN FISHERMAN, HE'LL FISH ANYWHERE, ANYWHERE THERE'S WATER, YOU KNOW HE'LL BE THERE..."
