Have to be honest, I'm torn about the bear population increasing. They are awe inspiring at a distance, but can be a nuisance without equal up close. Once they start coming into cities after trash, they basically become a 400 pound raccoon. Human-bear interactions tend to not be positive for either species when they happen in close quarters.

I have my doubts that some of the visitors to the Ozarks, and local residents, will follow bear country rules about food, trash, etc. Takes some diligence to prevent problems.

I think you are just pretty much anti-wildlife altogether. Wasn't it you who took the life of an innocent "40-pound raccoon" or something of the sort with your full-size SUV?

Big groundhog. Almost climbed the curb after another one yesterday.

Full size SUVs fit inside Excursions :D.

Whatever you do, just don't let any of those big kitties wander over into Arkansas. They aren't allowed here. Never been any here. Not a one. Our AGFC will be happy to confirm that for you. No such thing as panthers, mountain lions, etc. in Arkansas. :o

Seen a cougar south of Branson West a couple years ago but can't prove it.

AGFC captured one in Fort Smith just yesterday near one of the local high schools. It was videoed the night before hanging out at the mall in front of JC Penney's. LOL

RELEASE THOSE BROWNIES!!

I have a photo of a bear that was taken 2 nights ago in our neighborhood, but I can't get it uploaded. If an administrator, or one of our tech gurus, will send me a PM, perhaps I could get it to you via email and get it posted.  Sighted just south of Highway 13 on H Highway.

that is kind of funny Champ 188   I never heard of mountain lions not being down there. But as far as up here they are here. The people tht track them have said they think they use the Missouri River as a migratory route. My son built a pool in the far western St Louis county a couple yers back. And had one comfy through his building site. They had several MDC had several trucks on the roam through there for several days. Since the gents were coming through his building site he talked to them. It seems everyone of them they trapped was a young male and there was some concern this one was a female.  They are concerned about them establishing a native population. They wonder all over the place. There was one tagged in Mo that was found in I believe it ws Michigan 2 months later.

As far as the Bears go they have been found in seme rural area in Jefferson county just recently. I know theyhaveproblemswiththemin Ark.my neighbor an fishing bubby had a home in Bella Vista for about 20 yrs. They would come right  up into yards down there. his parents were well know down there last name was Young.

176 Champ----Bobcats are all over the place in the Ozarks. Always have been. It isthelargevpupulatiom order that have brought the cougars back. IT was program theY STARTED I Arkansas that is responsible for the  Bears.

PM sent.

This is what worries me a little, as picnic / cooler / camper / tourist season heats up. Lot of folks aren't used to thinking about taking bear precautions in the Ozarks.
