I agree with you that an un-marked trotline is a big pain, especially when you hang up in it.  Also know that sometimes in some places folks will steal/run a trotline that is visable, the last one I had, went home with someone else, guess they thought they needed it more than me.  It is a risk you really have to take to mark them and keep them visable.  Crawdad traps wouldn't have the risk of entanglement that a trotline does, and would have much less chance of tangling a lure.  One of my pet peeves in life is thieves, I can't stand them, with the number of people who use the lakes anymore, most of whom are not "locals" and simply don't look at it like we do.  Back in the old days on some lakes/rivers running someone elses lines was a good way to get hurt.

Trail cam on the bank to take a pic of the thieves?

^^This.

On a camping trip we had a trap stolen. It was a public camping spot so I knew it had to be someone camping in the area. I happened to have one of my trail cams in my truck and set it up with a brand new trap in the exact same spot. The next day it was gone. And we caught the guys on camera. It was 3 guys, and we found out they were camped further down the river. When we drove by they were having a crawfish boil with my crawfish caught with MY traps. I absolutely HATE thieves. So instead of doing the right thing and turn them in to the authorities, me and my buddies waited until they left on their boat to go fishing for the day and nobody else was around then we trashed their entire campsite, poured out all their beer from 3 coolers and 2 kegs onto the ground, got our traps back, then we left! :D

Remind me not to get on your bad side. Goodness! I'm shedding a tear for all that beer. :crywithno:

So you stoop to their level and then brag about it on a public forum. Hmmmm.

Typically I would check ours 2 or 3 times a day and reload bait during those checks.

It's a fun little system we have when I am down for more than just a day or two. If I get down for 4 days then I have enough time to mess with it. Bass fish the AM's and at night, catch the perch/bluegill during the hot part of the day. Check the line after the morning bass outing, then again before going out just before sundown, reloading at each check. Works for us and has been a successful system.

Only after cats but have had a few rare bass on there before. Also quite a few turtles. Biggest cat we've had is about a 35lb flathead and usually get a couple in the 10-25lb range each time we do it. Typically do a trip end late lunch fish fry and some of the bigger "black perch" and bluegill get thrown in the fryer as well. Hungry just thinking about it.

Oh we had friends that got video of their reaction....let's just say it was absolutely priceless!

So you ended up breaking more laws than they did?  Weren't you the one busting my chops about being devoted to "family" on a previous post I made?  SMH....
