Oklahoma is in the middle of a plate.  Like said above these quakes are man made from fracking practices.  No fault lines to link up with other quake regions.

Can you explain to me if that is true how come this one was felt some places and not others. St. Louis felt nothing but accross the river they did.

Earthquakes are like sounds. Some mediums conduct the vibrations better than others, and certain formations make for better acoustics.  Who felt the quake depended on what kind of soil and what rock formations funneled the waves. Many of my neighbors here in Eureka felt the quake and dishes rattled. Our house sits on a rock bluff overlooking the White River channel. We felt nothing, although our dogs behaved oddly

Some useful info...

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/research/induced/myths.php

It is from the government, so take it as you will. Lots of info is out there about the various risks.

I slept through it here in KC, although it did wake the kids up, opened some desk drawers. Tore my shoulder up working form tackling, and was full of Benadryl to sleep through it. Kids were smart enough not to produce a larger quake by waking me up.

You ever think about what you'd do if you were on a large reservoir when the dam failed ?

I think I'd try to make it to a mud flat, but if none were close I'd run to the back of a cove, trim the motor up and let her sit.

I'd sure wanna get off the water fast and stay as far from the mainlake as possible.

I live 40 miles from the Epicenter that was at Pawnee Ok. I had just got out of bed, when the whole house started shaking. I ran outside where my wife was walking the dogs, and we stood there for 45 seconds watching the water in our pool slosh out both ends, and the garage door going nuts. Crazy experience. Only the second quake I've ever felt. We had one picture fall from the wall, and haven't seen any cracks in the stone exterior of our house which surprises me as hard as it was shaking.

Thats an interesting thought.  Makes me wonder how long it would take to drain a lake like T.R. if the dam did ever give way.

Beach it hard and fast, I suppose.

We didn't feel anything here near Branson, but in my hometown of Omaha, NE, they felt it.  The Humboldt fault goes north through KS and NE, so the "shockwaves" propagated along the fault northward, rather than eastward.

Now, if the New Madrid fault ever cracks, the entire Table Rock region should be feeling that.

The biggest disaster imaginable would be if Truman dam failed, dumping 45+ feet into Lake O.  Man what a mess that would be !   Busted docks, boats, and houses for miles.  Scary to even think about.

That would be sometime wrench. It is far from impossible. The first responders from the the counties sirrounding LOZ have been practicing and planning just in case of such a event. Truman is a earthen dam.It could weaken just like any dike along the Mississippi.

I can see the constant shaking going on from oklahoma causing at least some of those reservoir out in the area to start leaking.
