I do gunsmithing work here in my retail store.  Of all the guns I get in probably 50% of them just need a good cleaning to get them to run again.  CLEAN THEM GUNS!!!!!!!

Sounds like you're doing it for them too cheap.

Not too many people can put them back together when they strip them down.  The Ruger Mark series is one that is a trick to do, but Ruger fixed that with the Mark 4.  I always loved it when a customer brought in a pile of bait caster that they attempted to clean and could not put back together.

Mechanical aptitude is failing in America, has been for years.

Clean them and collect their money.  Like many things doing the task isn't hard, but knowing what to do may be.  The Ruger MKII was never difficult to re-asemble, just had to know the trick.  I launched into things that too days to re-assemble, requiring multiple trips back to the computer to look a the videos.

That was one of the main reasons I bought my Shield.  Pull the slide back, flip the lever down, pull trigger or trip the release, pull forward and there you have the slide, barrel, and spring.  Now the Hi-point I can't say the same for.  Had a Ruger 22/45 and I thought that one was a bitch to take apart.  If I had the extra cash I probably would have paid someone for that one.

Captive springs are the bomb.  M&P is better, you don't have to pull trigger on them to break down like a Glock.

First thing I do with all pistols is break them down and clean the gunk out of them.  Re lube and go to the range or farm.

Modern finishes are a lot more forgiving than the old blued steel.  The old wipe down every trip out the door is not needed as much with stainless and other finishes today.

you sure are right about the finish on them.  I have dropped mine twice now on concrete and cringed each time, but when I look it over it looks like nothing ever happened.

Never really had problems stripping down a gun for cleaning and reassembling it. Fishing reels I tend to be more hesitant about. More little and plastic parts to them. Then again, if I paid upwards of $50-60 for a reel, I'd probably try it.
