bobby b. Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Late yesterday afternoon I had two line breaks while pulling warts and RC in very shallow water. The line (fairly new 8 lb Vanish) broke about 12 ft from the lure. I know that in both cases I did not stick the lure into wood or the like. While working the bait the line just gave way without a tuck. The line at the break looked stretched. I'm thinking the line hit something sharp but seems weird twice in about 30 minutes in two different locations. Any thoughts? PS. There is a brand new RC floating around Combs Ferry (the wind was blowing so bad against the bank that I was afraid of banging up the hull trying to get it) Also WT 48. Been catching a few keepers (SM and LM) the last few afternoons around Indian Point on Warts and RC. magicwormman 1

First cast I ever saw someone make with Vanish (heavier than 8) launched a spinnerbait about 50' up the side of a bluff up the James. Sounded like a rifle shot. Brand new line. fishinwrench Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Yep, that stuff is junk. I can't even believe it is still on the market. Berkely needs to give that crap up and start over. Mitch f, Quillback and dtrs5kprs 3
Mitch f Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Vanish was horrible, the new 100% fluorocarbon is supposed to be a lot better but I've only tried it once and wasn't too impressed dtrs5kprs 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Bill Babler Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Sorry to say that the guys above me have spoken the truth. 2 and 4 pound Vanish work well for trout, they were standbys for years before some of the Hybred Carbon tippets became so fantastic. As you get heaver for some reason the breaking strength of the Vanish goes down and goes there really fast. I think it is not the tensile strength, of the line but I think any immediate pressure even the snap of a cast or of a lure bouncing off an object or the sudden weight of a fish is just about all it takes to separate you from your bait and what ever it is attached to. Have seen this for years and our old Biologist Bill Anderson can tell you stories that are nightmares of losing fish on Vanish. If you want to fish fluorocarbon line I have had just excellent luck with Lew's house brand. Apples to apples, when cash is on the line, no pun intended, most all my junk is spooled with InvizX Old plug, magicwormman, *T* and 3 others 6 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
