Luckily I never needed it. It was a good thing that he wasn't running in a pack. You never want to run in a pack but we all know that sometimes you get caught up in one and some of those guys aren't smart enough to not run like that. It appeared to me that they were running virtually single file but if they hadn't maneuvered to the right to escape the boat in fronts wake immediately prior to the mishap, the 360 that they spun would have left them directly in the path of the oncoming boaters. It just didn't appear from the video that there were very many "safe" options if they wanted to keep their place in the launch order. My old sissy posterior would have pulled off to the side and waited till the carnage had ended. Of course, I would have finished dead last as a result which kind of defeats the purpose of entering a fishing tournament in the first place. It also explains why I DON'T enter fishing tournaments in the first place! These days, I have to satisfy my competitive needs by either catching more fish than my wife, on the golf course picking on players of way lesser ability (getting harder and harder to find) or wrestling with 8 year old grand nieces and nephews - the latter of which has about run its course as well. Fish24/7 Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 had to slow the vid down to get a good look, now I see!
fishinwrench Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Ya know what I think I'm going to start doing? Shortening kill switch lanyards. They are made long enough so that a guy can stand up and take his PFD off while still keeping it connected. But by the time your body is far enough out of the seat to pop the kill switch you are already out of the boat. I'm a bit concerned about the liability of altering the lanyards but it sure seems better to kill the engine sooner than that. Thoughts? dan hufferd, dtrs5kprs, Royal Blue and 3 others 6

I think he did this in the beginning as a way of making sure that I was always wearing one. Instead of clipping it on to the life jacket he would have one tied to the life jacket.
Royal Blue Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I can't see how shortening the lanyard could be a bad thing.

Me either, but I don't wanna set myself up to be sued by altering one. I know one guy whose foot slipped off the Hotfoot while making a sharp turn. The sudden loss of power almost flipped the boat and he busted his face open. If something like that happened and it was ME whose bright idea caused it by altering a lanyard....I could be in big trouble. dtrs5kprs 1

My foot comes off them in big chop/wakes. Same thing might happen with a shortened cord. Get a little lift off the seat in a cruiser wake, pulled cord, bad times. Ham and vernon 2

If I shortened one I'd make it to where it tripped as soon as you were far enough out of the seat to not have a hand on the steering wheel. Heck, the lanyard on most boats will allow you to walk halfway to the front deck. I'm not a big fan of hotfoots either, they can be a good thing or a bad thing. 2 hands on the wheel is good, but constantly fluctuating throttle position is bad. A water bottle rolling around on the floor, or any other clutter is bad, and I see alot of messy boats with Hotfoot throttles. That particular area under the console seems to be a magnet for anything laying loose in a boat. dtrs5kprs, Royal Blue, 96 CHAMP and 1 other 4
dtrs5kprs Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 You have to do some work to get a boat ordered without a hot foot anymore. Had to explain it several times.
