Members shawncuz Posted February 8, 2017 Author Members Posted February 8, 2017 Thanks for the info. Next question... Which is better waders with boots or buying the boots separate?
trythisonemv Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Go with boots separate. Any good hiking boot will work if you want cheap. If you want good ones look at bass pro. grizwilson 1
Terrierman Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Simms boots, White River waders. Best of both worlds. grizwilson, JestersHK and trythisonemv 3
budman Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 I totally agree with Terrierman. The Simms boots are showing no wear after four years and the toe box give you some wiggle room which will help keep your toes warmer.
JestersHK Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Agree with all about going with stocking foot waders and boots. One thing I recommend is make sure you go and try them on in person if you can. I'm usually an XL guy at 6' and 220 but the Large size white river waders fit me perfectly and I was swimming in an XL. For boot size you will want to go up maybe 1 or 2 sizes depending on brand. Try the boots on with either double or triple socks or even better try them with the waders on. I've spent close to 20 hours straight in my waders/boots on a marathon day of fishing once and stayed dry and comfortable. Spending a whole day in gear that doesn't fit right or in boots that are too small is for the birds. Good Luck Terrierman 1

I was real close to getting the SIMMS G4 BOA boots. Just had to good of a deal to pass up on the Cabelas ones, and figured I'd give them a try for 1/3 of the price. I think once these boots blow out I will take the plunge and splurge a bit on them.
BilletHead Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Agree with separate boots and trying on first but am on the other side of the fence on deciding a final size. We like more of a loose fit as we layer up under the waders for the dictating weather conditions. Besides baggy waders make us look slim and trim while wearing them . Shawncuz do you feel like you are in wader overload right now? Pat Magee Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 I picked up a pair of Patagonia wade boots for 60 something bucks a couple years ago at Hargroves. Just bought them because they were cheap but I love them. If they didn't smell like river muck I might even wear them to work! It seems like they are rare as hen's teeth for that price but if you are in the STL area, you can usually find some killer deals on that discount/old model year rack at Hargroves. There are usually some waders/boots/jackets etc. on there from time to time. JestersHK 1
stlfisher Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Recently purchased a new pair of Sierran waders from Frogg Toggs after my Cabela's pair of 7 years finally sprung a leak (which is now fixed). The Sierran's leaked right out of the box...which kinda sucks when it is 35 outside. It was kinda like a firehose and It was like swimming naked in winter. Sent them back (they charged me for shipping) and then sent me out a new pair in the wrong size. I called Frogg Toggs complaining and they told me to keep the pair that was the wrong size and they sent me the correct size. I figure the large will work with winter clothes and the mediums will work in the summer. My Cabela's brand still work like new after a lot of aqua seal on the booties saved my last trip. I really hope the new ones don't leak tomorrow as I really like them, but my old Cabela's brand are going to be hard to beat.
