With the forecast for temps in the 70's I had to go fishing.

Good day for bites, I had one of those days where they were biting the Ned well but I missed more than usual, good bites too, they'd load up, I would set the hook, have them on for anywhere to 1-3 seconds and they'd get off, seems every once in a while there will be a day like that.  Probably had a least a dozen pull off, couple of good pullers also.

But I did put a dozen in the boat on the Ned in spite of the escapees, 3 were keepers.  Still getting them deep for the most part, 20-30 FOW off rocky points, and around deep trees.  However one of the best spots was off a transition bank where it went from gravel to about a 50 yard stretch of shelf rock with a good drop off.  No trees in that spot, very little cover, no shad, but yet they were there, pulled 5 bass off that spot.

The wind picked up in the afternoon, deep Ned fishing became not much fun, so I started throwing the Crawler on windy rocky banks.  Picked up 4 bass on the Crawler, some chunky ones, close to being keeper sized, but just short.

Water temps ranged from 46-47 in the main channel, to 49 back in a cove.  Saw my first turtle of the year out sunning himself.

Quite a few boats out there, not surprising given the weather.

Thanks for the report Quill!!

I put in at Shell Knob yesterday afternoon around 1:30 and went towards point 22 &23 and the where white caps out there. The wind was pushing my boat 1-2 mph..lol...most fish i saw on fish finder was in 30-80 foot of water. I dont think my new partner likes the boat, that was one reason for going i left about 4pm. Water temp was from 46 degrees too 49 degrees.

I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything!

Quill, nice report. Thanks for the information. Sounds like your day was much better than ours. We got out for a couple of hours around the dam in the afternoon on Tuesday. We only caught one spot but it was a nice, chunky 17" keeper. My wife caught it which was good for her. She will only throw the Ned and has caught keepers the last two times out. Water temp was 48.5 in one cove and 50.2 on main lake points. Fish came from 17 fow on a main lake chunk rock bank at the mouth of Indian Point. We were trying to catch bobby b and big c's pet keepers.  Then the wind really picked up so we left around 2:30

Nice report, QB. Sounds like the fish are starting to stir. Is that another meanmouth in your bottom pic? You are, after all, The Meanmouth Whisperer. :)

Yeah I think it is a meanmouth, has that olive color to it.

Really think there are days they are either clamping on the Ned so hard you can't move the jig in their mouths, or they are just tail grabbing.

Check the back end of your bait for tooth wear. Especially if the fish had that "spongy" feeling before they pulled off.

I had some tail grabbers last time out.
