i am one of the few that do not use attractants, but if they give you confidence use them.  for those that keep fish in their livewell, i would think that would be a good place to get fish scent on your hands or even your lure.

I use scent on all my swallow baits, all plastics I simply spray in bag move baits around and close. Scent soaks into baits. For jigs I spray at beginning and maybe later in the day. Main reason is to mask any other scent you might have on your hands, including human scent.

As Bo stated, if it gives you confidence then use it.

Best bait to use is the one you have confidence in, you'll fish it harder and concentrate more.

Putting some of that oily smelly stuff in you bag of plastics also helps to  keep them from drying out.

When I get to the piece of water I am gonna fish I have a habit of scooping up a handful of mud, sand, gravel whatever I can and scrubbing my hands with it, rinse off in the water and go fishing.  Does it help?  No clue but like scents I often use it dont hurt anything and makes me feel better.

That only works if it is shoreline mud.  It has to have some goose and coon poop in it.

While we are discussing this....Who was it that decided freshwater fish liked the taste of salt ?   Pretty smart dude whoever it was, cuz no matter what you grab out of the lake and shove in your mouth, you are gonna wish like #ell you had some salt.  ?
