Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 17, 2017 Root Admin Posted February 17, 2017 First, I'm going by strictly rumor so everything here is speculation. It's speculation because the people who are putting in this attraction are being pretty hush-hush about it. Why? It may because it's controversial. It's a speed boat going out of the Branson Landing, carrying up to 50 people. It's thrill ride, reaching speeds of 65 mph and does donuts. There's a question of who's supposed to declare this a safe ride... in the past we believe it was the Missouri Water Patrol - they've supposedly squashed this before. But since the MHP and MWP converged, the powers that be aren't sure they have the authority to do anything. I'd think the Corps would have to approve and issue a permit but we're not sure. They have a dock already and are building a kiosk at the Landing. Negative aspects: Width of the lake. They sure wouldn't go up lake where the lake is narrow. Down lake it's wider but wide enough for such a boat? Present traffic. Fishing boats, kayaks and canoes. Kanakuk Kamps, just below the Landing. Lots of summer time traffic from the camp, again, kayaks and canoes. Fog is the summer. I'd think they wouldn't go out in the fog... would be very dangerous. We'll try to find out more about it but they are trying to open May 15th. They're trying to fly below the radar... we'll try to not let that happen. I'm not opposed to new attractions... but I want them to be smart and safe. JestersHK, skeeter, Daryk Campbell Sr and 2 others 5
MOPanfisher Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 That authority should be with the MSHP, the COE wouldn't have any authority over it.
Flysmallie Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Can't we just go back to the Sammy Lane Pirate Cruise? Royal Blue and Bass Yakker 2
moguy1973 Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 I wonder what the liability insurance would be on an outfit like that. I can see someone in a kayak or canoe being seriously injured if not worse with something like that on Taney. skeeter 1 -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Ive watched youtube videos of such boats, Taney is huge compared to the skinny water those things navigate that i have seen. that will def hack some fisherman off if it happens Smalliebigs 1
skeeter Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 As to the question if this is going to be "Safe"...it might be "safe" for the passengers in the boat but a 50 person capacity boat, probably jet driven if it can do "donuts", is going to be one large boat creating a hellacious wake. Hope you "Trouters" put a fast stop to this disaster and it doesn't force the boat-ride people to re-locate to Table Rock. There are already enough problems for anglers trying to enjoy a day out fishing with the ballast-adding "wake boats" putting their ridiculous wakes over the bow, gunwale and transoms of even the largest fishing vessels.
likinmo Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 That would suck! Im a lower taney angler...just cant imagine having to put up with that all the time! Would ruin a good trip for sure
Quillback Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 50 people? That has to be a pretty good sized boat. And it's going to hit 65 MPH? A boat with that capability would cost a few bucks.
Quillback Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Just for grins, did a search on a 50 passenger fast boat and found this one that is supposed to cruise at 50 knots which puts it close to 65 MPH. Picture is not the best. http://www.scrutonmarine.com/PV2073.htm
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 18, 2017 Author Root Admin Posted February 18, 2017 Not sure if that would spin...
