That is why I own Chryslers.  We all get our parts from Franz Marine in KC and he is excellent at technical support.  When he retires all Chrysler owners are going to be in bad shape.

It's one of those things where nobody will notice if you do it..... But they'll sure enough notice if you don't.

D.U., True enough.  I haven't seen a Chrysler outboard in a coons age.  Stupidest ignition system on earth.  Otherwise they were good, simple (but kinda weak) motors.

I like that you can't stand to send something back out that isn't right, even if it's not what you are asked to fix, personally I wouldn't complain if you billed me for it.  But a few bad mechanics have ruined that for folks, the "while working on your motor I noticed this bolt was broken so I fixed it and added it to the bill" when nothing was really wrong have screwed the good trustworthy mechanics of the world.

Exactly.  That's why I don't even mention it.   Because my real reason for fixing it is so that nobody will ever think that I was the one that did it.

Truth of the matter is....That piece of stainless wire would hold that cable in place just fine, forever.   But it "looks bad".

When I was a kid dad had a welding shop and folks were forever bringing in old farm equipment for us to weld up.  We would fix whatever it was they wanted and often as not end up welding or fixing multiple other things.  Dad's theory was he had "retired" from welding for a living and did it as a hobby to help friends, and teach me a useable skill.  On one fix I had done a relatively sloppy job to fix something aside from what we had been asked to.  Dad made me grind it off and do it right, as a typical teenager I complained that the owner won't even know we fixed it what difference does it make.  His response has stayed with me,  "son, you will know and I will know, that it was done correctly, and that is enough".

Dad's! ??

When I was ready to open my own shop I needed help with getting licensed, setting up the LLC, ect.   And I also needed a very forgiving lender.  Hey Dad! ?

Well I wanted to name it Fishinwrench Marine.  I earned that handle back when I worked at the marina. A customer while waiting on his boat to be worked on was trying to get some fishing tips from the folks in the office, and my boss told him that he didn't fish much....but said he had a "wrench" back in the shop that fished all the time, so go ask him.   The guy walks into the shop area and hollers "Who's the Fishin' Wrench"?    The next day when I went to clock in the name on my time card had been scratched out, and replaced with Fishinwrench.

Anyway (I'm telling two stories at once here).... When I told the old man what the name of my business was gonna be he did this eyebrow thing that he always did whenever us kids said or did something stupid, and said "That's the stupidest gawdam thing I've ever heard, if you are serious about this, and you want any help from ME then you are gonna put our family name on it.  That way if you get lazy and screw everything up then I'll be 100% justified in killing you and using your body for cutbait".

The old man is gone now, but you can bet he is standing there on the back deck of every boat I work on, doing his trademark eyebrow thing, and just waiting for me to do something stupid.

Keeps me in check.  ?
