The largest smallmouth I ever had on my line, other than in Canada, was at Broken Bow lake in Oklahoma in the late 70's. That fish would have pushed 5 pounds. It broke me off due to an idiot move by me. It hit a slider rigged 4" black worm on a 1/8th head in about 15 feet of water. Ned feels comfortable and old school to me.

But it's not really a Slider worm, at least not with the cut stick. The Shadz is closer to that. That old slow tedious winding.

Love smallmouth and love Broken Bow. Beautiful place. A good friend of ours is a fulltime guide  there and his dad before him.  We usually make 1-2 trips a year to visit him and go fishing.  Fun times.

The ned rig in those pictures is deal lrger than what I have been led to believe a ned rig is. That is like putting a chunk of plastic worm on a jig.  Heck of a lot different than finnesse. those things in the pictures look to be about 4" long. I have done something simler using a sinko rigged that way.

Yes but senko's sink.  Elastec floats and wiggles and drives them fish crazy.  Watch the video the young kid did in the cooler.  I love that kid.

But technically the Ned doesn't work.

I love it for winter fishing. It's my go to bait. Once the water warms up, it turns in to a dink magnet and I usually just put it away until winter.

Pics in the article look to all be the regular TRD,  2.75". Even stretched, a cut Zinkerz won't reach more than 3".

I played around with some longer cut pieces, mostly because I cut a few wrong. Never fished the same. That's why I have no interest in the bigger bait they brought out this year.
