redshad Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 I have running a Yamaha outboard for the last 22 years. For the last 2 years I have been running 521C with a 250 Yamaha. I moved to this area not long after I purchased my new rig and have had nothing but frustration trying to find oil get service etc. I have tried to deal with Sports Boat USA but they are the worst boat dealership that I have ever dealt with, for one they are never open. My frustrations with service and etc made me make a big decision. I sold my 521C with the Yamaha last week and I will be picking up my new 521C with a Merc this weekend. After 22 years of running a Yamaha I am done for as long as I live in the Springfield, MO area. In Texas we had many great Yamaha dealers that were great to work with but I have not found it to be the same around the Springfield, MO area. I now know why one tournament days there are 50 Mercs, 20 Evinrudes and only a hand full of Yamahas. I guess now I will fit in with all the other Merc guys. magicwormman and Smalls21 2
redshad Posted April 7, 2017 Author Posted April 7, 2017 I still think the Yamahas are great outboards. I just don't want one in this neck of the woods.
Ketchup Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 Sorry to hear you "settled" on a Merc.. You can always step back up when that motor peters out. Texas? My home state. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
redshad Posted April 7, 2017 Author Posted April 7, 2017 LOL, Ketchup. I agree the Yamahas are very little trouble. That's why I have ran one for over 20 years. I live in the Dallas area for 15 years some great fishing down there. I had to make some adjustments fishing these deep clear lakes. I miss the days of having 50 lb braid and just go out flipping. if you caught 3 six pounders it was just an average day. magicwormman and shark bait 2
fishinwrench Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 In the past I have tried to get tech info on Suzuki's and on Honda's but they won't come up off of it. I told them both that they weren't going to sell many of their outboards around here if there was nobody around here to service them, and they acted like their motors weren't going to need any service. Oh Puleeeeze!! What it came down to was they wanted me to dump 3k per year into their training program. My response was "Well why would I do that for a motor that SHOULDN'T EVER need service?". Peckerheads ! Yamaha shares their tech info freely and there should be no problem getting them worked on anywhere. Granted it has to be a dealer if the fix requires accessing the ECU data....But in 20 years I have only had to refer someone to a dealer 4 times. It's very rare. crazy4fishin, vernon and tho1mas 3
rps Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 I hope your black anchor works out for you. No, really, I do. At least you can get it fixed near by. vernon 1
bobby b. Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 I have a Yamaha 4 stroke and Cope has done an OK job on it. Doesn't Urich work on them? Wrench - What does ECU data stand for?
motoman Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 I have a Yamaha 4 stroke and Cope has done an OK job on it. Doesn't Urich work on them? Wrench - What does ECU data stand for? Electronic Control Unit I believe. The onboard computer storing diagnostic/trouble codes. That could prove challenging to service if you can't pull the codes. - I thought Hydro-Tec in Nixa were Yamaha gurus, also handling rebuilds and performance stuff too? I'm pretty certain they sell genuine Yamaha parts and accessories..........I'd think they'd have to have access to Yamaha software.........but I could be wrong. Royal Blue and skeeter 2
