Champ188 Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 I bought two of the 4000 size Pflueger presidents last September and loved them right up until they snapped in two where the stem of the reel seat goes into the reel housing (photo attached). This happened with both reels within a week of each other. Took them back to Cabela's and exchanged them for the new Pflueger Summit XT. Hope to have better luck with these. Incidentally, both failures occurred when I was setting the hook but I'm not a prolific rock-the-boat type of hook setter. Besides, you can't jerk overly hard with 6-pound line. Anyone else had this problem?
fishinwrench Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 Nope, and I set the hook like I'm splitting wood. With 10-12# line. Bummer! Deadstream and Carl W 2
abkeenan Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 Quit going "Iaconelli" and slamming your equipment on the deck. Or stop listening to Hog sports on the radio while having fishing gear in your hand. Sucks that happened to both in a matter of a week. Must be a defect for that to happen in the same spot and with the same amount of wear time. Glad Cabela's took care of you. Carl W, Muddy Water, magicwormman and 4 others 7
bferg Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 My main questions are: how can one set the hook without rocking the boat and why would you want to? Sucks about the reels though... hopefully the new set up is better.
Ham Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 I've not had that problem, but Super Dave sets the hook really, really hard with 6 lb line. magicwormman 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
cheesemaster Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 I seen that happen with my brothers reel. Same size and model as what you have there. He lives in Nebraska so he took it back to Cabela's also without any problems. I think he just replaced it with the same thing. I will have to see how it's doing. Carl W and dtrs5kprs 2

With 11 year old Daiwas. There's a reason I don't experiment. Only other reel I've seen that with was Okuma. Bill Richey broke a couple.
Seth Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 I've been using the 6925 and 2930 sized Presidents for several years and the only issue I have is one of the spools has the clicker piece broken. The drag works fine, it just doesn't have the audible click like most reels do. My 6930 has always had 15# Power Pro braid on it and has caught a lot of bass for me. Champ188 1
Quillback Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 El Presidente failed! Say it ain't so! Seth I have had the same thing happen to a spool on a Supreme, little metal tag provides that drag noise, it burned out. Drag still works, but I need that noise. Usually can find spools on Ebay. Anyone else had this problem? looks like the problem might be "pot metal". sometimes in casting that stuff, it gets something in the mix that can cause a spot to not connect with the rest of the material or can have a air bubble in the mix, or sometimes it just is not strong. a friend of mine has broken two reel seats on brand new lews bait casters. do not know what model they were. pot metal is not often too strong. bo Champ188 1
