I got to the launch at 5:20am and was casting by 5:25. I tried the top water again with zero luck.  I caught a couple ripping a deep little n down the banks but it was slow. I busted out the ned and didnt put it down the rest of the day.  

I only had 2 keepers again, and they barely made it. I had about 25 or 30 total but most were dinks - like 8 to 11 inches. Gravel points and I found several in one little cut next to a drop off point - if that makes sense. Water temp was 78 to 79. 

Here are the 2 keepers with a smile for Vernon😉 and a couple special pictures!! Is this thing just a water snake or is it poisonous? I don't know my snakes very well. He thought about trying to get a ride with me - but I didn't oblige.

Looks like a copperhead to me.  Glad you didn't invite him in.

Hard to tell, but looks like a cottonmouth.  You should've grabbed it and brought it home for some better pictures.

It swims on top like a cottonmouth.  Do copperheads swim on top like that?

Cotton mouth.  Triangular shaped head,  Zoom in on the first pic of him and you can see that edge over the eyes that always reminds me of a flat top marine harcut.

It looks 100 percent Cottonmouth to me.  Most are darker colored, but I've seen some light like the one in your pictures also.  They are to friendly for me.  Me and my boy saw one just like it in Finley River yesterday just after we got done snorkeling right next to it.  They hardly ever show any fear of people.

cotton mouth seen a bunch over the years,peach orchard cove and around virgin bluff seem to be the highest numbers of cottonmouths,on the other end of lake,from state line bluff to cricket creek,i have the seen the most in  that area .     the most cottonmouths,i have seen 4 0r 5 in same trip       i  am on edge, night fishing over in that area

Here's one to put in your knower...when I was very young learning to catch stuff that moved, my uncle told me that any snake that swims with it's whole body floating is venomous. I am not sure if there is hard science behind this, and of course water snakes dive, but when they are cruising around you can always tell the difference.  

I did see a copperhead fall from a bluff into the creek (he did not like it) as it made haste toward the bank it's whole body was above the water, unlike the common water snake with just it's head above water.

Anyone else notice this or is it just a tail. ha ha
