moguy1973 Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 Anyone try the Beetle Bags? My FIL used some last year on his property and would get pounds of them trapped every week, then he'd dump them in his pond for the sunfish and catfish to eat. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

Beetle bags are great for drawing in more beetles than you would normally have. If you get one put it in your neighbor's yard grizwilson, Johnsfolly and Daryk Campbell Sr 3

We made the mistake of trying to save our grapes and put out bag traps on the edges of our yard. We have been committed to keeping them up. We have been emptying both traps twice a day for almost 10 days now. Each time there must be 1 to 2 lbs of beetles in the traps. Most of the time we could not add another beetle to the bag. Worse year ever for the beetles around us. However our birch and mock crabapple trees both still have leaves unlike others in the neighborhood. Even the grapes still have a few leaves. BilletHead Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 I found some beetle traps on a clearance table. Bought them and have them hanging. Did put away from where the beetles have been tearing up our plants and blackberries. Like You John we have to empty them daily. Nasty little buggers. Another thing I did. I noticed so many beetles gathering on the branches above the traps doing their thing. So I sprayed liquid seven above the traps, now I have dead piles of beetles all over the ground around the traps. I am doubling my kill rate . I also know they say the traps draw many more but I am seeing less and less on the ornamentals and blackberry bushes! Johnsfolly Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 My friend was telling me that the blue cats in his pond cruise along picking off the beetles that drop to the water. He may begin putting up hangers above the water and cut out the bottom of the trap to let them fall into the water. Instant fish feeder. BH have you heard of anyone using Japanese beetle flies at Bennett's? Thought that you and the Mrs did well last year using those flies. BilletHead and MOPanfisher 2

Just have two traps right now and have them in high traffic areas trying to protect the flora! A big heck yes on the beetles at Bennett. We ripped them a new one last year over there. I seen a bunch dead under the sodium vapor lights. So we tied in a couple of small disco beetles and gave them fits in zone 2 below the dam under the big sycamore tree. Here are a picture of a disco beetle and a deer hair one I tied the other day, BilletHead Johnsfolly, Daryk Campbell Sr and grizwilson 3 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Old plug Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 They are not back they been camped in the soil since this time last year. these now will be laying their eggs in the ground and dieing. The eggs will become larve and emerge this time next year to repeat the cycle. I tried catching the larva in the ground and posioning them. It worked a bit but not a lot. I think if you Can catch them in the early stages of emerging you could reallyvdo Somme damage. But Ibunderstandctheyvhave a large range for such small wings. They love tress like Elms. If I gould spray them when they appearcI would wipe out a awful lot of them. Our however are all ozer 75 ft. I am Not about to reach them..
Gavin Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 Jerry Jarosik's Japanese Beatle fly is a killer...Still have 2 dozen of his originals plus a about a dozen of his Humpy's. Basically foam, wrapped with peacock herl, 6 peacock herl legs, overbody of deer hair. Super killer flies, only break one out for a big picky riser. snagged in outlet 3 1
