See?   That's the part about "channel bank" patterns that I don't understand.

If the channel is 80' deep and the fish are at 10-15' then what makes a channel bank any more likely to have fish on it than any other steep rocky bank ?

Wrench, my thought is the fish follow the old river/creek channel. On the way they find a nice hotel/motel to hang around and swim in the hotel/motel pool for a short time. We can only hope they'll keep the light on for us. Lol. This pattern typically will stay pretty decent throughout the summer. I like it again come winter with an a-rig, jerk bait, grub or a spoon.  Look for those cut/pockets in the bluff walls. If you find a lay down or falling rocks, fish those spots really well.  Also experiment with the half ounce, three quarter or one ounce jigs. My best was a toss up between the half and three quarter.

Sometimes they will be on both, or only one of the other.

To me, a swing plummets vertically more than a steep rocky bank does. Although some of those can be pretty darn vertical too.

I gotcha.  

Once the actual creek/river channel exceeds a depth of 30' on LO I pretty much ignore it, assuming that the fish do too, and it seems to me that I'm correct.  On TR I would think you could extend that channel correlation out to maybe 60' at most, but I don't have near as much experience chasing fish there.

In other words....you can't claim that fish follow the old river channel when the channel in the area in question is 462 feet deep, and you know that the fish are never deeper than 50'.

That is exactly right. It  does not even need to be rocky or even a bank. What  it needs to be is a spot where the forage is and is close to deeper holding water. This system is nothing new. I know of people who have been doing this many years. So the only thing cat out of the bag about it has been that it has been lightly discribed on this forum discribed on this forum. Even when you find them it can be a chancy buisness. If the fish are really zeroed in on the forage you can throw anything you want at them and they will ignore it. They a.so can be finicky about how it falls. I also have not had much lyck dragging plugs thru them. Time of your attenp to catch these fish is very critisal because it does not last long. They will fill their bellies very fast with that forage abd return to their dolldrum in the deep. This past couple of weeks I have bee catching them from almost on the surface to about ten foot over fish holding 15 to25 ft down. It worked but it is not working now for me. All the signs are there though that it should be. So I will go do something else and let them rest.

I've been catching fish on drop shot at 20-30 feet at Beaver. I tried the bluff deal a little to no avail. All that were biting were perch. A lot of bait fish in Rocky Branch area. Top water bite has been awesome on WP and Ima walking bait. When tw bite slows you can toss a drop shot around in the same area and pick up a few.

 I do not do straight down bluffs either. But I think it would pay me toreally try it with plastic worm during the eve ing feeds. Only bluff type structure I fish with a drop shot is if the edge of the bluff is submerged down pretty deep and I fish on  the top shallower area.

 Been catching mine here on LOZ at 20-25

Dan this is a technique I do at loz. Thought I would try it at the TRL. It worked for me.  I wish I had caught some wall eye.

The spot I'm fishing is basically a deep hole inside of a C shape. Points on each end and deep in the middle. The fish are corralling the bait inside that area. When they push bait to the top I throw top water. When they go back down I'll toss in a drop shot. If that dies down I hit the submerged points where the chunk rock drops to deep waterwith drop shot or jig.  If the wind is blowing to that spot you can stay there all day. I'm beginning to hone in on using my sonar up front. I am seeing fish below and dropping straight down and catching a few that way. I just need to figure out split screen where I have one side zoomed in on right depth to see them coming to bite the bait more clearly.
