stlfisher Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 I fished for bass with a baitcaster for years, then fly fished exclusively for 8 years. Now I do both and it is usually seasonal. Spring is fly rod for bluegill, trout, and bass. Summer is baicaster for when bass go deep amd my lakes get overgrown and winter is fly fish for trout. I like it all. I don't fish enough rivers...maube when the kids get older. The biggest issue at this stage of life is finding time. I spend to much on fishing, but you can't take your money with you. Think too many feel it has to be one or the other. There is a time and place for it all. Norm M, Daryk Campbell Sr, MoCarp and 2 others 5
snagged in outlet 3 Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 Born with a fly rod in hand and traveled all of the country with my dad using it. I could fly cast at 4 or 5 years old or so and I'm 56 now. It was just what my dad did. Fly fishing, golf and bird hunting. I never realized people thought fly fisherman were snobs, I just thought they were staring at us because we looked stupid fishing with a buggy whip and a feather. Ed Story taught me to tie flies and I've had the pleasure of hanging with some famous fly fisherman over the years because of my dad. I've had dinners with the likes of Lee and Joan Wulff and Lee even showed me how to tie a royal wulff without a vice. Wish I would have kept that fly. I made a spin outfit when I was 12 or 13 and I still have it. I'll fish for anything using any method. I have a pond prowler and love to bass fish which I do more than ever due to it being nearer my house. Otherwise I would fish the White and Norfotk forever if it was closer. With a fly rod BTW. Greasy B, grizwilson, BilletHead and 1 other 4
