Apparently as long as one person considers it a trophy (or a Lunker)...then it is indeed. A 3lb. bass is a nice one, I'd actually rather catch several of those instead of one 6+ pounder, but that 3 pounder doesn't impress anyone regardless of where it came from.

As others have pointed out, it depends upon whether or not it's a wild fish and where it comes from, and also what you consider "trophy" to mean. Basically, if it's 20 inches or better and has intact fins and a bright, hard body and comes from Ozark waters other than a trout park or other put and take fishery, I consider it a trophy rainbow. Now if it comes from one of the small wild trout streams, the size criteria goes down, but then you have to ask yourself if it's a trophy or a different category, like a great catch...can a 14 inch rainbow be a trophy? Im with you here Al. Crane has blessed me with a twenty incher and lots of fifteen plus fish which in my opinion is Like catching a five to seven pounder at a park. I still think overall trophy size is twenty plus inches. Johnsfolly 1
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 21, 2017 Author Root Admin Posted December 21, 2017 Mine was the one and only 15 incher.
Gavin Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 It depends on what you value, where, and how you caught it. A 10lb park "Lunker" is not the equivalent of an 18" feral or wild rainbow. A 15" can be a trophy if its bigger than your buddies. best fish!
tjm Posted December 21, 2017 Posted December 21, 2017 Trophy would be something over the current world record, any thing less is just a fish. Of course every fish is a prize more valuable than a trophy. Trophy means different things maybe, but it brings to mind rotted taxidermy hung on a dirty wall. I don't get that and never have.
Members Gary Davisson Posted December 21, 2017 Members Posted December 21, 2017 It depends on the stream and area. I consider a 20" rainbow trout very nice but I consider a trout in the 24"-28" range a trophy.

Would "put and take fishery" then exclude Taneycomo? I certainly would consider a 20" rainbow out of anywhere in Taneycomo a trophy. Seth 1 Real men go propless!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 25, 2017 Author Root Admin Posted December 25, 2017 Taney is partially a "put, grow and take" lake.

How about the one just prior to it? trythisonemv, snagged in outlet 3 and Gavin 3
