Wrench, can you talk a little bit more about your observations with deep JB & also the smaller 78 model? What makes them effective?

 i would say if your not hitting rocks and docks with them your missing out on a lot of fish. I never knew a good stick bait fisherman who didin't. Bass will lay in wait in cack of a bolder ect thistime of year looking up at the bank.

Plug, For sure at ozarks. Maybe not so much at table rock. 

Like wrench said, I too throw a shorter handle 6’9” ( I think) parabolic rod at l of o. More of a gentle jerk. I cut my jerkbait teeth at ozarks. Seems a little more gentle and much shallower there (my favorite). Love the pointer 78 in aurora black there along with the clown  tend to jerk the rod towards the gunnels and hate hitting the water  

At table rock, I throw a 7’ st croix crankbait rod with a moderate action. Much longer casts and a significantly harder jerk in the clearer water.  Megabass 110+1  jerks are more sidearm and much longer  

From what little I can tell, Stockton fishes somewhere in between.  Throw the above plus a RC stick here.  Orange bellies and clouds get bass and eyes here  

10lb invisx normally, might go 12 at l of o or in some color on Stockton. I don’t own lighter line and with ice, trees, docks, rocks and brush....10 makes a $25 megabass nerve wrecking. Cover matters. 

I want to believe color and flash matter yet I tend to tie on a shade with the most teeth marks and battle scars most of the time.

You just need to try one and feel that hard thu-thump when you give it a 10" pull.  Sometimes it just gets their attention better.  I usually give 2 kinda hard pulls - one softer shorter pull - a twitch - then a pause. Some days pause longer than others but the rest of the cadence stays the same.  I work them pretty fast and cover some water until I get bit then I'll try long pauses before moving on.   A stock deep rogue with the stock hooks (sharpened) and just enough suspend strips on the tail end to make it set level.  Shake the rattle beads to the front if sink tuning it, but you'll probably have to fine tune it on the water.

The 78 has been a savior in calm clear water probably 4-5 times in the past, and for river smallies it's always a killer.  I really don't like to throw it but it HAS gotten me bit more than once when the bigger ones wouldn't.   Freaking barn door crappie, whites, and drum love them too.

I've been looking for a beginners jerkbait that will hammer the schooling fish, whites & crappie. It sound like this is the bait.

I use a Falcon Bucoo SR 6'6" medium rod with a Daiwa Tatula CT in 7:3:1.  Mostly throw the vision 110 or the McStick.  I typically use big game mono on this set up because I use it to throw spooks too.  I have a brand new spool of 10lb Invisix that I should put on there until warm weather though.

Been using 8 lb this year. Not sure if it’s the fish or me but it seems like I’m getting more bites. Might be better action or it’s sinking better.

I saw lots of Tatula's posted in here.  Does anyone else have an issue with the brake dial turning during a retrieve?  I love the reels, and usually have my brakes set between 6 and 10.  I'll look down after a dozen casts and notice I've moved up to 14 or 16 on the 20 scale.
