Farther down the hole mama mole says hey, I smell sorghum. They all travel a little farther when baby mole says, cue drum roll. If you think it might be from a digging animal then closely look at the mound, real close and you should be able to see any hairs left by the animal when digging. If you find hairs try and take a picture of them against a white sheet of paper and I should be able to identify it if I can tell the colors. No excavation dirt around the dirt. I'm confident it's not made by any digging animal.

I guess that leaves moles. All we need now is a good dermatologist to remove the ugly things. dprice, BilletHead, waterpossum and 2 others 2 1 2

Members lundone Posted January 26, 2018 Members Posted January 26, 2018 I live not far from that hill of dirt and we have many mounds just like it and they all have ants crawling all over them. wtr dogs 1
straw hat Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 I can't believe they are fire ants. That would be far to north for them. You can never tell though how a species will adapt. That would be a bummer as they play heck with cows that stumble into them.
MoCarp Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 if they are fire ants they are adapted to cold...that would be a VERY bad thing MONKEYS? what monkeys?
grizwilson Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Do not think they are fire ants the mounds are larger not as close together seen similar 25 years ago near Crane found morels near by ??? “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
dprice Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 I think It was dug when It was dry by the soil density However it still looks fresh as can be While I type this I admit haven’t looked at the photo for a week and this is all memory . Scavengers such as opossum and armadillos are generally shallow diggers for grubs and worms and such Mostly seems to take place near grasses The only other thing I have considered and posted the darnadelle troubles was it was possum practicing with a ice fishing auger ??
