joeD Posted February 17, 2018 Author Posted February 17, 2018 Last time I checked, mental illness and ineffective parenting didn’t cause the continued slaughter of schoolchildren in Canada. Or Australia. Or Japan. United Kingdom. Peru. Maybe it’s time for some to put their muskets down, because the British ain’t coming and we probably won’t need your services in our militia to protect our sovereignty. bfishn 1

Just not something i have seen since the 90's. Agree in lots of ways, but arming the faculty won't be a good idea after a few English teachers or basketball coaches go nuts and open fire during an assembly because their wife is having an affair. Something has definitely changed since I was a teenager. Society and the way people think has taken a really bad turn. You can't trust anyone to maintain their senses anymore. You can't trust teachers, you can't trust doctors, you can't trust cops. Sports events and music concerts are risky. Maybe it's better if the folks in Missouri never hear about the things that happen in Florida, and the folks in Florida never hear about what happens in Nevada. I think we are just too connected now and bad ideas get spread far and wide. A pissed off kid probably wouldn't think about shooting up his school if he hadn't heard (and watched videos) about it happening at least once a month somewhere else. The internet is messing up the weaker minds out there. I know for a fact that I would be way better off if my daughter didn't know what a Hatch-a-mal was ! Daryk Campbell Sr 1

One thing most have is an online persona claiming their intentions. Vegas was an exception. This dude was called in and not acted on. Too much concern for feelings and not enough for flesh.
jdmidwest Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 No need for stricter gun laws, only the ones that are sane and obey the laws abide by them. Just like all the other laws including the one about "thou shalt not kill". Cut the publicity out. Quit making each shooting an ordeal. It just stokes others to try the same things. Growing up, we had 30 minutes of local news and 30 minutes of national news at 5 pm and 10 pm with a morning show. 3 channels. News blurbs on the radio at sporatic times. Daily Newspapers. Now, hundreds of channels to funnel it 24/7, the internet, radio, satellite, and even a newspaper or 2 still. Everything gets sensationalized. Growing up, arguments were settled with a fist fight as a kid. Now, even talking bad about another kid will bring down severe punishment. That leads to them taking more drastic measures. The internet and kids has had a negative effect on them in so many ways. Raise your kids right, love them every minute you can, and pray things work out. fishinwrench Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 I think that instead of worrying about guns they should take smart phones and the internet away from anyone with any hint of mental weirdness. Isolate them to their own creativeness and keep the creativeness of others worldwide from influencing them. One kid in Arizona eats a Tide pod......then almost overnight you have idiots gobbling up laundry detergent Nationwide. Do you think they would have thought of that on their own ? The active shooter drills will condition the kids to follow instructions like good little lambs, may even create some that grow up "law-abiding". (similar to the d&c drills, eh?) There is even an outside chance that it may help managge or prevent loss of life in a future situation. So, I'm lost what is so sad? You've got to be joking. Wondering about what's sad about a child worrying about being killed by a classmate or a stranger or whoever with a rifle. What is sad is how I feel for you right now.

I remember getting one and just thinking of getting it was worse then the punishment. It did not even have to be a hard spanking. Spare the rod spoil the child. I turned out Ok and BilletHead Jr. did too and he got spanked a few times . Neither one of us were abused. Did any of you cut your own switch? I am not talking a beating either or condoning it for anyone, BilletHead Cutting my own switch was way worse than having it cut my bare butt. Never have and never will forget it or my grandmother crying while switching me. That line about it hurts me worse than it hurts you was never so true. Deadstream 1
awhuber Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 We have had armed teachers and staff is many schools in Missouri since 2014. You may want to ask your superintendent if yous is one of them.

A year before that another one was taken off the school grounds for falling asleep in his car and not answering a request to secure a doorway. And yet another one, working the school when not on duty with the water patrol, was placed on temporary leave because he was under a manslaughter investigation of which most of you here were aware of. I'm afraid that none of those badge wearing clowns make any of these kids or their teachers feel any safer.
