After a really good and enjoyable day of fishing, we encountered engine problems up by Baxter.  As we are staying in the Aunts Creek area, it presented quite a challenge for us to figure out how to get a back from Baxter to our resort so that we could get our trailer and go get our boat out to have it fixed.  As luck would have it we met Wilson, who turns out to be a member of this forum, who immediately offered to give us a ride.

What a great guy!  He gave up an hour of his day to go out of his way to help out some fellow anglers.  He wouldn't even except our offer to give him some gas money.

Thanks, Wilson!

Lots of discussion on catch and release VS eat, Tourney fishing VS non-tourney fishing, sight fishing beds and other different points of view.  In the end we are all fishing brothers and sisters!  Way to go Wilson!

RPS has saved a fella or two too.

You're very welcome and it was my pleasure to meet you folks.

I have to confess for selfish reasons I was calling all around trying to find out if the water in the gas that you had narrowed it down to was the source of your problem and finally Bob at your Lodge told me Curt Pollard (right down the road from me and a longtime friend and great mechanic) at Baxter Marine had worked on your boat.  Turns out the recent fuel delivery via tanker-truck to the Marina was the culprit and I don't envy the new Marina owners having to deal with that although Curt said it was entirely the Gasoline Company's responsibility and they have protocols in place to deal with that.

Hope you got back out, trouble-free, and are having a good and successful remainder to your trip.

It is worth noting that Bill at Baxter Marina handled this exceptionally well.  He immediately owned it, got us right in a shop to get our engine fixed, and took of everything.

It's nice when you have mechanical problems to have someone take time out of their "fun" to lend a hand.   I can never pass by someone that is potentially stranded BUT I just gotta say this.......  I feel it is your responsibility to have all the "what ifs" covered to the best of your ability.   I strongly recommend every boat owner hit this link and join up immediatly, if you aren't already a member.   http://www.boatus.com/membership/

Don't allow your misfortune, lack of maintenance, or general lack of boating knowledge, negatively effect someone else just because there are plenty of good natured folks willing to offer help at anytime.

I say this because on the lake I live on you cannot go out 4 days straight without encountering at least 2 stranded boats, and quite frankly....karma aside.... it DOES get old.

Do they service rivers?

As I understand, Yes.

A customer of mine was on the St.Johns and US Boats contacted the closest marina and had them tow him back to his trailer.   He never was asked for a dime and never got a bill sent to him.

I emailed BOATUS on May 5 asking about tow service on 4 area lakes.

BOATUS May 7 reply > "We currently do not have a TowBoatUS Port on Stockton Lake & Beaver Lake. We do have a Port on Table Rock Lake and Grand Lake."
