Johnsfolly Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 I didn't know where to put this post, either here or on the Support Forum. I ended up here because no one is ill and I didn't want to take away from those that need support. So this will just be a narrative on the Folly family issues the last couple of days. I was headed back to Maryland on Tuesday. Now that we have secured a rental home, this was going to be a time for a partial move. We packed the Sequoia with items that I would need to have when I am in MD and until we make the final move. Since I needed to be at work Weds morning, I was going to fly and my Betterhalf would drop me off at the airport and continue driving onto Maryland. I don't really know what was going on, but I seemed to lack focus at the airport. Or maybe it was reading and responding to several posts on the forum. I even almost boarded a flight to Detroit ! My flight got moved to a different gate well across the airport and was delayed until after 9 pm. My concern was if they cancelled the flight with my wife driving through Illinois at the time. At last we boarded and I got into Baltimore after midnight. As I got my phone off of airplane mode, I saw a text from my wife. She only asked that I call her as soon as I landed. That is not a text that you want to see after a 2 hour flight and no contact. I gave her a call and she told me that she missed the first two deer but not the third. She told me later that as she was driving along she heard me tell her in her head to turn on her high beams (Marty knows very well what she was hearing in her head ). She got her high beams on and maybe that spooked the deer. Who knows. So at the time of my call they were getting the SUV on the tow truck and getting ready to take it into Marshall Illinois. She got a room at the Super 8 for the night for her and Livie. So at this point She is ok for the evening. My journey continued. I picked up my rental car and headed to Easton - about an 89 mile trip. I pulled into the hotel lobby by 2:30 am. There was a note on the front desk that said that the night manager was away from the desk. I sat down and watched the George Lopez show. After a couple of minutes I called the front desk once, twice, three times over a 10 minute period. If I was turkey hunting that gobbler would have been in my lap by now, but still no one to check me in. I went to the office door and knocked several times, then to the door around the side and knocked there as well. still nobody. At 3 am I went behind the desk and found my room paperwork and my keys. So I filled out the paper, signed it and put it on their keyboard then headed up to my room. Thankfully the keys worked. I would have been really pissed If I had to sleep in the rental car. After talking with the insurance folks and the garage guys, they wanted to total the car. Sue did not think that the damage was that bad. So she got ahold of my daughter and her boyfriend and they drove out from Springfield with a tow dolly. They did get the car to Columbia and to our local garage. We'll see what they have to say about what it would take to fix the car. Since we were planning on moving into the house, I had Sue only book my hotel through Friday morning. What I didn't know is that she only had me booked through Weds night. So she got a call from the hotel when I did not check out this morning. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I stay at this hotel so often lately that they had no problem extending my stay and even more so after Sue told them about my late night self check-in and her accident. So I have at least a hotel room through this weekend. The next issue is that Sue has the house keys. So I have to get ahold of the land lord to get me a key tomorrow so that I have a place to stay. Once I get into the house, I have to find someone with a mower so that I can cut the grass. I then have to pick up a bed and a few other things to live alone until Sat when Sue and Livie try again at moving some of our stuff. What a saga! also there are a lot of issue at work, but that is another rant. Daryk Campbell Sr and dan hufferd 2
Ham Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 In a few years, this is going to be a hilarious family story. Right now it really sucks though. Sorry Bro. I’m glad you have the temperament to handle it, but trying times that develope such patience and perseverance and difficult at best. you got this. Quillback Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 Dang, that's just a bunch of bad stuff happening - hopefully the worst is over! Johnsfolly 1
BilletHead Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 Well Crapola John, They say stuff comes in threes. In this case four. Here is to hoping this means all the debacles are over and the transition to Maryland begins to smooth out. When you have time after the move Mr. Scientist begin to work on the black hole, vortex, transport device, time warp, Bermuda triangle thingy, beam me up Scotty (I mean beam me over Johnny) or whatever you decide to call it so we can meet and fish together and let the girls talk about us . Then we can talk about the native species vs the introduced non native invasive fishes 😀, BilletHead Daryk Campbell Sr and Johnsfolly 1 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Flysmallie Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 So no pics of the deer? What kind of trip report is this?? Sorry John. I hope everything starts to work out and you find this move was worth it. I have traveled a lot over the years and I know that horrible feeling of your wife and kids needing something but your in an impossible situation to help. It can be really rough. I've been in the collision industry my whole life and I can tell you it doesn't take a very hard hit to do a lot of damage to a vehicle. The cosmetic stuff on the outside is easy, the structure that you can't see is what eats up the dollars. When we got away from those big huge bumpers and made vehicles safer it also meant the vehicles were more susceptible to expensive damage. I'm not sure what your ins company is using for their number but once the repair reaches a certain percentage of the estimated value of a vehicle they are going to total it. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
176champion Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 I hit a deer many years ago with a 1998 windstar and it set off both air bags and just had right front fender bent up a little bit, didn't look totaled but insurance totaled do to the air bags going off which meant a whole new dashboard assembly which costed back the little over 2500 bucks alone just for the assembly. Glad to hear everyone is ok and no one got hurt.. snagged in outlet 3 1 I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything! Bruce Philips
Gavin Posted May 25, 2018 Posted May 25, 2018 Keep your chin up, It can only get better...Glad nobody got hurt.

My wife hit one at the intersection of West Bypass and Mt. Vernon at around 5:30pm several years ago. It can happen anywhere, anytime.
