Ketchup is to busy hot rodding to worry about voltage.  And his boat is about as fun as they come for an aluminum rig.   I drove it the other day and couldnt wipe the smile off my face at 55mph running under 5000 rpm's....My next boat will be an Xpress

haha. Theres fish biting over there on that point, 300 yards away.

TinBoats BassClub.  An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.

Absolutely!   If yours doesn't have one, or a place to mount one on the console, then I'd recommend ditching the useless Trim Guage, or equally useless Water Pressure guage, and putting a Voltmeter in its place.

All charging system catastrophe's can be detected if the captain keeps an eye on that Voltmeter.   Most sonar units will display voltage also if you choose to display it on your overlay data.

what about getting rid of the speedometer? i hate those things on a boat!!!!

Well the speedo hole is too big for a voltmeter, but yeah speedo's are more worthless than anything, and needlessly taking up console space.

How long can one expect to get out of a battery, and what are the warning signs Wrench? My interstate is coming up on 2 years, and would hope to get another 3-4 out of it. As you know, I don't run my boat every weekend. Guess I need to add a voltmeter at some point.

IMO 3 years is pushing it.

I should also add that I have never seen battery failure cause damage on 6, 9, or 16 amp charging systems.  Only the outboards with 40-50amp regulated systems.  So your little Merc is safe I think.

But you need to change the hamster every three months.
