Wrench - I don’t understand the need for a splice; I wired mine with a new plug and screwed connections

The installation of the plug itself constitutes 3 "splices (places where corrosion can set in, and/or contact area can loosen from the ongoing hot/cold cycle).

No such thing as being too OCD about electrical circuits.

MY motor specifically states to unplug while charging, not really sure why but i do it

They are covering their six.   If a circuit shorts out in their TM control and burns down your house they don't wanna be held liable.   By putting that in their instructions even if it is a result of shoddy engineering their butt is covered.

I've got a Perko cutoff switch installed by my batteries.  I flip it off when I roll the boat in the garage and hook up the charger, flip it on when I roll out to go fishing.

Was there a circuit breaker on the system?

The battery cutoff switch does not include the troll motor. It should but it does not. I guess they assume I will unplug the motor when  dock or put it on the trailer. There are fuses on the troll motor batteries. They did not trip.

I put a disconnect switch in the feed circuit on my new Ulterra just in case I forget to turn it off at the motor base and then somehow accidentally hit the deploy button on the fish locators, foot control, or remote.  Deploying the thing at the wrong place and time could be catastrophic.

When i upgraded to a 24v system i was told and did plenty of research saying my factory wiring would be fine.   After long troll i smelled something burning, so i opened up the back hatch and the factory wiring burned through one of the plastic handles on the battery.   So i got the pleasure of pulling 6 guage wire through the whole boat, it was a pain in the butt, but now i have no worries
