fishinwrench Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 Pond Prowlers are cool, you can stand up in them. 👍
snagged in outlet 3 Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 Just don’t use a trolling motor that pulls more amps than The wiring is rated for. Trust me. Bass Yakker 1

Old plug Posted July 25, 2018 Author Posted July 25, 2018 I been wondering about the durability of them in rivers when running shoals. Would seem the pedal type if it were top or the other thing would take a beating if you did not get out in time to slide it through. As far as standing I fish with a butt seat. A practice that may be coming to a end. I like to thru myself out of my friends big 18ft Jon boat last evening. It has two decks a full floor and is wide and fairly deep. I was stepping down into the cobalt from the back deck and missed the seat and wound up on the floor. I like to say it was because I misjudged a small wake but the truth is I hater to admit was that at about a about a year and a half from 80 I am just not as sure footed as I was. My other buddy has a 18 ft bass boat and getting down from his back seat is a test in courage I think. I look at those kayaks and know they are out of my class. I imagine I will finish my days in my big old 19 ft Targa.

But it doesn't have the pedal drive. I just use a paddle. 1 hour ago, Old plug said: I look at those kayaks and know they are out of my class. I imagine I will finish my days in my big old 19 ft Targa. I don't stand in mine. I used to fall out of a bassboat all the time so I know I'm going over in a kayak. But it is very stable. I've screwed up on some pretty good runs on the river and just knew I was going to flip, but I never have. Some of them are very stable. My biggest issue is getting in and out or on and off if you want to call it that. It would be easier if I was in better shape probably. But my seat sits really low. I think raising it or buying a different yak with a higher seat would help a lot.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 My daughter talked me into taking one out a couple years ago. It was a freebee at a resort so I don't think it was high quality. Felt like my knees where bumping my chin and I just don't bend that way. Never could sit cross legged on the floor either. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
fishinwrench Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Paddling a yak tends to wear me out between my shoulders after a short while. I can paddle a canoe all day and not be sore at all.
moguy1973 Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Mines been dragged across a lot of gravel bars also and it's just scuffed up on the bottom. They make plastic welders to repair them if they ever do get a cut or gouge in them. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Gavin Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 They a pretty durable but do not use the pedal motor hobie gizmo on a river. My biggest gripe is loading and lack of gear capacity, but no big deal. They fish well and are easy to paddle for a novice. My 9 & 11 year old girls do really well on their little SOT kayaks. They are not ready to pilot a canoe yet.
MOsmallies Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Love my Kayak... My only complaint is I wish I could use it more often! Haven't had it on LOZ but its perfect on the Smallmouth Streams! Johnsfolly 1
