fishinwrench Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 I wouldn't even want to do it in a motor boat. That river is intimidating. Have done the Miss. from Louisiana Mo. to Natchez LA. in a 16' Ouachita Jon boat. That was an experience I'll never forget. Was headed for New Orleans but just couldn't make it.

timinmo Posted July 25, 2018 Author Posted July 25, 2018 There were something over 500 entries. Several different classes, solo, tandem, team, etc. This is the first year, I think, that they had a class for pedal craft, like the pedal kayaks. For the vast majority of the racers the goal is to finish, kind of like people running a marathon where really on a few people have a chance of winning. In the past only about 2/3 finished, so finishing is a big deal, at least in my view. If anyone is in the area and interested we will be in Hermann tomorrow evening, look for a red Dodge Ram with a camper shell and canoe racks, dah.

No but anytime about Mid Arkansas I would have welcomed that and gladly surrendered. It was fun looking back, and cool to be able to tell the story, but in all honesty none of us had any fight left and we all pretty much just wanted to die. 😅 TroutRinger 1

BilletHead Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Fired our guns and the British kept a coming, wasn't nigh as many as there was awhile ago, fired once more and they began a running. down the Mississippi to the gulf of Mexico. Fired our cannons till the barrels melted down, grabbed an alligator and we fought another round, filled his head with cannonballs and powdered his behind and when we set the powder off the gator lost his mind. timinmo Posted July 26, 2018 Author Posted July 26, 2018 Sorry to interrupt the history lesson. My sons are at Cooper's Landing which is mile 170. About 140 miles to go. Some teams have already finished. Winning time was just over 33 hours for a five man team a solo guy finished in about 36:30. You can follow the race on RaceOwl.com. Gavin Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 That's awesome! Have thought about entering but have too many family commitments at the moment. The MO has a good current, 5-6 miles per hour so it is achievable if you stick to it. Have one buddy who tried and failed to hit the first checkpoint on time. Have another buddy who completed it in his 60's. Mostly a mental game according to both. Do not quit! Buddy who completed in his 60's is a Marine who saw combat in Nam. Said it was not that bad.
