How much does a derby pay MDC per man per event? If you are paying for something and not receiving it you have a right to squawk.

As far as I know Mo. has no hatchery set up for Black Bass. Why would they? Bass are native and self sustaining and relatively long lived and for the most part unharvested. Quote Missouri’s has four hatcheries that produce warm- and cool-water fish. Lost Valley Hatchery near Warsaw is one of the nation’s most advanced and largest public hatcheries. Lost Valley is known for raising paddlefish and white bass/striped bass hybrids. Chesapeake hatchery near Mount Vernon warms its water to get catfish to spawn early, producing 12- to 14-inch catfish in one growing season. Blind Pony Hatchery near Sweet Springs is known for producing the endangered pallid sturgeon, which is being used to restore populations in the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. Hunnewell Hatchery raises hybrid sunfish, which grow fast and large and are used in kids’ fishing clinics. Terrierman 1

Ellros Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 11 minutes ago, bobby b. said: Was a reason given for this and if so do you guys agree? if it is like Nebraska... it's because bass sustain themselves. Nebraska stocks bass, bluegill, channel cats in every new lake, then the bluegill and bass are on their own. No more stockings. Channel's are occasionally re-stocked in some lakes. Some new lakes get a SMALL stocking of black crappie (a few dozen), then the crappie are left to reproduce naturally.
Members olbasser Posted November 2, 2018 Members Posted November 2, 2018 Again back to the money. I think there are about 10 fisheries operated by MDC. Of those fisheries the majority are trout fisheries as trout have to be stocked to keep up with fishing pressure. In addition, most missouri streams do not support a native population. I think a few MDC fisheries raise channel cat, etc. but no bass fisheries. that I know. So where do you get the fish? I can see why MDC doesn't give missouri lakes a high priority. Financial impact info is available for trout fishing but little info on the financial impact of lake fishing. Anybody in their right mind goes with the money ( tags, etc) that directly effects their income or budget.

Years ago some friends built some private ponds and bought bass and catfish to stock them or you could get them free from MDC but if you took the free ones from MDC you had to let anybody fish your pond and the MDC published where they where. I don't know if that program still exist but I would guess that you can buy bass somewhere.
bfishn Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Lots of places you can buy LM bass fingerlings for around a buck a pop (delivered). Daryk Campbell Sr 1 I can't dance like I used to.

Last I heard (a couple of years ago) that program still exists but you don't have to open your pond to the public.
