got out this afternoon and it was a bit cold.  have fished worse, but that was back in my younger years.  boy, did i do a lot of looking, but finally found a few.  caught them around 50 feet deep.  joe lane caught the biggest one on a ice jig.  the rest came on 3/4 Zinc spoons, and 1 oz. GrassJig and 4" swimmer.  i did have one other 3 lb. class lmg and a couple of keeper lmg'.  the rest of the keepers were fat k's.  really can't say how many keeps we did catch, but a good number.  enough that it kept us warm.

Those are fantastic deep fish, thanks for the report.  Going to get a bit nicer next week so out I'll go, hoping to do something similar.

i was looking at those warmer days too, and they were also predicting winds with them.  higher winds are good for chunk and winding, but not for sitting out in the ocean and fishing 50 feet deep or deeper even.

What conditions are you looking for that'll tell you the jerkbait bite is on?

You just have to experiment, Dave. Doesn't have to actually be a shad kill in order for them to bite it. Anytime the water dips down around 50 or below in the winter, I'll be throwing it.

it helps to be in an area where there is bait higher in the water column.
