Quillback Posted December 20, 2018 Author Posted December 20, 2018 Well I guess I am misinformed, I'll keep calling them meanmouth. If I tell people I caught a hybrid, they'll assume it's a white bass/striper cross. Daryk Campbell Sr 1

Smallmouth will hybridized with all of the other smalljaw species in the wild, but not largemouth. If you call a fish a Meanmouth you are just misinformed. That is not how I understood paragraph 8 when they were discussing Squaw Creek in TX. Bushbeater and snagged in outlet 3 2

I wasn’t giving you trouble about what you call them, I just find them to VERY interesting however they cross👍 Daryk Campbell Sr 1

I also think they are a neat fish whatever they are called and how they got crossed. Be pretty neat if there was a cheap, quick DNA test kit available to us to make a quick check before releasing them. Maybe something for Tackle HD to work on? 😜 Edit - I am not mad at anybody BTW. rogerdodger, Smalliebigs and Daryk Campbell Sr 1 2

In 1993, Rich Fry caught an 8-pound 3-ounce bass from a Pennsylvania mine pit that was genetically identified as a first-generation hybrid of a largemouth and a smallmouth bass". bo *T* 1

Jerry Rapp Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 let's say a generation for a bass is 10 years. What will happen to the bass population in 5 or 10 generations of mixed breeding? Will every bass be a hybridized specie?
Blll Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 I was under the impression that most hybrids are sterile. Given your 5-10 generation concept, it could be an issue with reduced natural spawning success.

I asked an AGFC fisheries biologist that question and he told me these bass hybrids are capable of spawning. merc1997 Bo and Blll 2
