One of those fish was 27 pounds 10 ounces. My guess would be close to 6 tons of huge fish. If you ever want to learn something about fly fishing, just stand back and watch Laker67. He is the Jedi Nija Wizard. Yeah but since this thread is about loosing fish......How many has he lost? 😁 Give us your best "lost fish" story, Rick !

I got one. 1 hour prior to catching my largest brown I lost a big rainbow that would go around 14 or so pounds. I was back looking for that fish when I found the brown. On an average I normally lose about 3 to every one landed.k Daryk Campbell Sr, fishinwrench, nomolites and 1 other 3 1

Which puts you at 25% ratio. So I’m guessing that if you used a slightly heavier tippit, the amount of strikes would probably decrease, but would it help you land more fish in the end? laker67 1 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
fishinwrench Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Ol' Jack B. was working a monster brown at the High bank hole years ago that was laying in a shadow so he couldn't see his fly. He finally gave up and headed back to his car, so after he got out of the way I stepped in and on about the 5th drift that sow gobbled up my little ginger nymph. Jack heard me holler at my wife (at the time) that I had a lunker on, and he came over and stood on the hill watching. The fight was lengthy and during the end of the battle the tippet had gotten looped around a pectoral fin. Jack started throwing a fit saying "it's foul hooked, it's foul hooked" and just kept on bitching at me. Finally when I got it landed I told him "come here and look ! " No I ain't coming down there, he said, I can see it from here. So I unlooped the tippet from it's fin and I said SEE ! He goes, "Oh BS, you unhooked it and stuck it in the jaw". That old SOB, I wanted to throw a rock at him. I had sent my wife up to the park store to grab one of those disposable cameras so I could get a picture before releasing it, but I got so pissed at that old peckerhead that as soon as the fish could hold itself upright I just released it. No idea what it would have weighed or measured but it was darn near as long as my leg. That's the biggest trout I have ever landed, and thanks to that old curmudgeon I never even got a picture of it. 🙄 Daryk Campbell Sr, Harv, Johnsfolly and 1 other 4

I'm gonna butt in here and say Probably Not. The more pressure you put on a big trout the more violently he fights. I can't speak for anyone else but I lose more to the hook tearing out than I do from break-offs. nomolites, Mitch f and laker67 3

Not sure as to what heavier might be. I am extremely comfortable with 6x. FW has got the same opinion as I. The harder you fight a fish the more he fights you. Landing a big fish is more like a gentle persuasion. Let him think that he is in control. Mitch f and Johnsfolly 2
laker67 Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Hey Wrench. Do you recall what year it was that you caught that big brown?

Actually I don't think me and the witch were actually married at the time. So it would have been 2001 I think, and I know it was early June because school had just gotten out. Man how time flys ! It could have been '02

John Teeples had one near 15lb at the rock hole just below, and Foghorn had one at the high bank hole that was 16lbs 15 oz.

The Brown fishing in the river was really good from 2000-2001 until 2005 In 2005 the river stayed high and muddy all winter long, and the fishing for Browns has never been as good since then. I used to do a self shuttle float from Redbeard's to Ho Humm almost weekly and I'd routinely catch 10-15 nice browns. Sad that those days are gone. I wish they'd go back to managing the river like that again. laker67 1
