I've never been a catfisher and I always thought they were there all year. Fact is I had thought winter might be the best time for it; gathering wood and keeping up a fire would give a feller something do while waiting for the nibble. Not have to mess with skeeters and snakes neither.
jdmidwest Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 I know guys that sit out in the Mississippi behind wing dikes in the coldest days in cabin boats and catch big cats. I don't think they hibernate, just not as active using energy that requires constant feeding. That's exactly how we caught them on the Missouri in winter......find the current seam between the wing dike and the river. Scan it...you can see them then put it right on them. Just like you said...they find a low energy spot and they can grab food as it goes by. However if your method of fishing is sitting and waiting in one spot then less active fish means less fish moving around and would probably decrease chances. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
fishinwrench Posted January 6, 2019 Posted January 6, 2019 I don't do any of it, but the guys that do persue big cats here on the lake do really well during mid-Winter, mostly on flats in 15-18'.
