Ham Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 That’s a beast for sure. Still not sold on that tail water. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 26, 2019 Root Admin Posted February 26, 2019 Trophy Brown... and great fish on a fly rod!
Members nymphermaniac Posted March 3, 2019 Members Posted March 3, 2019 It is a rainbow. That's very obvious. But it is a very nice trout.
tjm Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 Are any of these true as identifiers? what makes some of you positive that it is a brown and some positive it is rainbow? spots on adipose = brown? Spots on tail=rainbow? Single spots=rainbow? haloed spots=brown? I'm not at all certain, what it is. Tend to go with the hen rainbow, but...
Quillback Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 Well my 2 cents is that it is a brown, based on no spots on tail. Tail is also squared off, and I believe I see a red spot or two on the head. Night pic, the flash went off which would emphasize the silvery look. snagged in outlet 3 1
XP 590 Posted March 3, 2019 Posted March 3, 2019 I got it. I got it! It was "assigned" brown at birth. Now self identifies as rainbow. An example of species fluidity. Daryk Campbell Sr, Seth, tjm and 4 others 4 3
Al Agnew Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Spots on adipose...either. Spots on tail...absolutely rainbow. Single spots...both. Haloed spots...brown. Red spots anywhere...brown. Squared off tail...brown. Not many spots on the lower body and especially on the lower half of the meaty part of the tail (the body behind the adipose fin)...brown. Fewer and larger spots...brown. It sure looks like a rainbow in the photo mainly because of the silvery color, but it's a brown. Too many brown trout characteristics. Seth and snagged in outlet 3 2
