March 11, Big M area

[Quillback]

Fished from first light until 2:30 PM.  Sun came out in the afternoon, flat calm and it even got a little warm.

 

Ned bite was pretty good, boated 25, mostly spots, with a few largemouth and smallmouth mixed in.  Got them all on the Ned, except for one on a Keitech 2.8.  

Some fish were on long rocky runouts, some were just inside coves around trees.  Still getting them deep, anywhere from 12-25 FOW.

Surface temp inched up a degree or so since the last time I was on TR, a little over 43.

Had a couple of guys about a hundred yards from me at one spot working A-rigs, they were catching bass.

Good job, my friend. Glad to hear the water temp didn't bottom out during that last arctic freeze. I'm hoping for a bunch of warm rain the next couple of days. I've seen that kick start things this time of year.

darn quill you told me Ned and I completely forgot, threw a jig and swam a keitech and a grub. Flat calm it was tough. Back of schooner was 46-47. Saw a massive school of shad on a bluff down from KC bridge, birds all over it leaving feathers in the water. Rain should help

I have caught some of my biggest stringers this time of year with the water temp in the 40s, I always have a small 3-4 " grub tied on with 3/16 - 1/4 oz. grub head. Smoke pepper, Milky S&P, are my two I have done the most damage with. Watch for gulls and schools of shad, as long as they aren't all over the lake as in Bill's post you may get inti some good fish, once I find them I start fan casting, I have caught them even right up on the bank. Sure is fun fishing, I admit to being addicted.  Never will be a tourney winning thing, but I sure do enjoy it.

Couldn't make it work on Beaver a few days ago, funny how two lakes so close together can fish so differently.

Right now on Beaver that jerk bait is a scary, scary thing.  It can come back with a crappie a fish with lots of teeth, 3 colors of green and brown fish and for cripes  sakes, 2 extremely different sizes of white eating machines.

Next time your on Beaver you better throw that and put the little pooper scooper up.  You might get something big and mean.

Yeah I should toss the jerkenstein more often, what I need to do is to take everything out of my boat except for JB stuff and force myself to fish it.  So tough to find days where it's either not raining or windier than heck.
