I've had an Ultrex since August 2017 and it rocks!!  @fishinwrench mentioned durability and I can tell you mine has taken a good ole fashioned beating since day one.  Drifting down river and it gets shallow that thing was pounded.  Happened yesterday in fact.:)  Heavy scratches to show for it.  I had the problem with the outdated card and took it to Tristate trollers and they had it in stock, ready in one day and they billed MK for it.

Utrex making fishing great again.

Phil, last winter I ruptured a lung and broke 3 ribs.  The lung healed properly.  The ribs didn't.  Pulling the rope was driving me nuts.  I sprung for the Ulterra with I pilot.  It was such a relief to be able to stow and deploy with the push of a button.  I wish I had done it earlier.  I used it for a while and got to reading how much more I could get out of it with I pilot link and a Humminbird  so I sold one of my Lowrance HDS units and bought a Solix.  I also added the I pilot link.  It is so much better than just the I pilot.  I have been using the Ulterra since early fall and the link and Solix for a couple of months.  I'd do it again in a heart beat.

I rarely use the foot control and am getting to where I don't use the remote much as the Express menu on the Solix lets me control it from the screen with just a touch.  I like this setup so much that my boat is in the shop having another HDS unit taken out and a Solix mounted in the dash.  I use the go to, auto pilot and follow the contour more than anything else.

I have had an Ulterra since the first gen with I-pilot link.  I love it but won’t deny early bugs - covered quickly and at no cost by MK - their customer service is stellar.  The first qualifier is MK and Lowrance don’t mix..Humminbird only.   Also, can really only run 2D sonar on them without some crazy looking workarounds for other ducers, at some point I’m sure that  will change...I have a Helix at the helm as well and 2D suits me fine up front and I can spin that unit on the ram if I want to see wide.  The foot pedal will never be the same as a cabled unit but all the other features far outweigh any negatives.  It does behave like a woman at times, but I have learned her quirks and I think I will keep her 😉.  The ONLY way I would run anything else(Ultrex) would be if I was strictly a bass fisherman and worked docks all day long...the cabled pedal is hands down quicker/more responsive.  For big water fishing auto deploy is priceless, and vertical fishing structure it is simply not going to be beat.

Mike

Your right Mike. I have one of those weird looking run arounds for my cable.  There was a time you could run it down the shaft for a neat looking installation. But when they added the lift assist, that killed that option. After the warranty is out, you could pull the lifts assist and do it. But I kind of like the assist.

Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???B)

Phil I just got my "Kit" boat back.  If you would like to see first hand what the auto stow and deploy as well as some other nice options are, I'd be willing to take you out for a demo run.  We could meet up at Cape Fair.  Let me know if you are interested.

I know they are pricey, but that setup with lithium deep cycle would be incredible!

It's on the Minn Kota website.  I think an Ultrex is 80 pounds
